Both need WRs badly. Holt could provide veteran leadership at the WR position in either location. My guess is that JAX with the unknown status of Matt Jones is the team with the most interest in the former Ram star.

TEN faces PIT in NFL kickoff game on Sep 10th.
Looks like the Ravens got their wish and ducked out of the kickoff game after all. The Thursday night matchup on NBC will showcase the AFC’s best as the Titans, owner of the best record in 2008, meet the Super Bowl Champion Steelers at Heinz Field.
Later that week NBC presents the oldest rivalry in football as the Bears take on the Packers at Lambeau Field in a Sunday night battle.
The Monday night double header features BUF and Terrell Owens at NE with a hopefully healthy Tom Brady and in the night cap the San Diego Chargers travel to Oakland (oh joy!).
The Raiders also get some prime time on Thanksgiving as they fly to Dallas for the middle Turkey day game. After some discussion, Detroit holds onto their traditional Thanksgiving game, they host Green Bay. The NY Giants are at Denver for the last of three televised Thanksgiving games.
In other notes, 2011 may the year the NFL unveils a 17 or 18 game schedule. Hint: the collective bargaining agreement with the players ends in 2010. Rumors are that the preseason will lose 1 or 2 games which will simply be added to expand the regular season.

NYG WR Steve Smith-breakout player in 2009
Steve Smith the NYG WR is one of my breakout players for 2009.
In 2008 he had 57 catches for 574 yards and 1 TD but he only really started in 4 games.
Why a breakout year?
1) Opportunity- as Plaxico Buress may be missing, making Smith a #2 and perhaps the Giants #1
2) Smith enters his third year (thus having learned the system he should be better), Many breakout WRs come in their 3rd or 4th year.
3) Smith was a second round pick in 2007 (usually the higher the round drafted the more chance of breaking out; 1 and 2 rounders are the best)
4) Rumor has it that the Giants were reluctant to include Smith in a deal with the Browns for B. Edwards. So they must like him.

LYNCHBURG, VA. – March 18, 2009 – Sam Hendricks, author of Fantasy Football Guidebook: Your Comprehensive Guide to Playing Fantasy Football, joins the illustrious ranks of the Fantasy Sports Writers Association (FSWA). This great achievement comes on the heels of Fantasy Football Guidebook being named one of the Top 4 fantasy football books of all time according to RotoNation.com. In addition, the National Best Books 2008 Awards, sponsored by USA Book News, announced Fantasy Football Guidebook as a finalist in sports of THE NATIONAL “BEST BOOKS” 2008 AWARDS (NBBA) on October 20, 2008.
To be accepted into the Fantasy Sports Writers Association, writers must have at least one (1) year of experience as a fantasy sports writer and must have a body of work that includes a minimum of four (4) published articles in any of the following media outlets: internet, magazine or newspaper. In addition, nominees must abide by and conform to the FSWA Code of Ethics. Writers are approved for membership by the FSWA Executive Committee.
Fantasy Football Guidebook has received glowing reviews. Rob Zarzycki, top ranked WCOFF participant and author of Drafting to Win, said “By far the most comprehensive book I’ve seen on fantasy football to date.” Midwest Book Reviews recently reviewed the Guidebook and commented, “Fantasy Football Guidebook is an ideal gift for any fantasy football player.”
Sam’s rankings, projections and “expert” analysis appear in numerous fantasy football magazines this football season, including this year’s Fantasy Football Index and Fantasy Football Draft book. Last year he finished 7th overall (out of 180 competitors) in the Fantasy Football Players Championship (www.theFFPC.com). Sam is also an expert in Fantasy Index’s weekly online “Ask the Expert” column at www.fantasyindex.com. Look for his latest book, Fantasy Football Almanac 2009 in May 2009. Plans for another “Best of” Fantasy Football book will be announced soon.

Where would Cutler go? Det or Chicago or most likely
Detroit obviously needs a QB and rather than draft one with the first overall pick, Detroit could get an established vet in jay Cutler.
Chicago on the other hand seems to have a QB -Kyle Orton (last years darling until injured) after letting Rex Grossman (Good Rex. Bad Rex) go to free agency, the talk around Chicago is that perhaps a good QB is just what the young Bears need. They already have a great RB in Forte. Add some WRs and you have an offence to go with a nororious Bears Defense.
Other candidates? NYJ, SF or TB. All have questions at QB going into 2009.
The real question is what will Denver do about their QB situation if Cutler leaves.....or if he stays for that matter.

Baltimore signs TE L.J. Smith, plan on Top 15 at best
Lots of potential but lots of injuries as well, as his 9 games missed the past two years can attest.
Healthy means 55 catches, 650 yards and 4 TDs (144 FPs in a PPR league) and a top 12 finish.
But with his health concerns project a top 15 finish and hope for the best.

Holt gone from STL. Likely new home? CAR, BAL, JAX, KC NYG, OAK or SF
Holts' release saves St Louis $8 Million and he may have expedited the move with some of his 2008 comments after the season spiraled out of control. Still at 32, Holt can be a good WR for some team wanting a veteran WR to tutor the younger pass catchers. Possible new work locations: any place without two solid WRs. BAL, JAX, KC, NYG (if Plaxico is gone), OAK and SF (to be reuntied with I. Bruce no less). Some even hint at CAR since Torry is a former Wolfpack grad (NCST). Look for Holt to provide 70-100-5 in 2009 whereever he lands.
The Rams have already released OT Orlando Pace and WR Drew Bennett whose 2 years with the Rams for a disaoppointment to say the least.
So they are looking for help in the 2009 NFL Draft to help rookie sensation Donnie Avery (53-674-3) at WR. Or with the second pick overall perhaps some OL help.

LT to stay in SD but will RBBC be far away?
LT has agreed to stay in San Diego but I think the chance of some kind of RBBC with Darren Sproles is likely. Sproles is the small, agile back while LT is more of the bruising back at this stage in his career. Do not count LT out but he is not the top 3 lock of draft pasts.

LT to be reunited with Drew Brees in NO?
It seems as if SD has chosen to play hard ball with their All Pro RB LaDanian Tomlinson.
It is put up or shut up time as the Chargers have supposedly made their final offer to LT.
Now the ball is in his court, if he wants to stay in SD and play for less he can. If not.....
can a move to join his former teamate Drew Brees in New Orleans be far behind?

T.O. signed and its not to OAK. Who benefits and how?
T.O has gone to the AFC for the first time in his career. Thats right folks the Buffalo Bills have inherited T. Owens with a 1 year, $6.5 million contract.
T.O dropped quite a few balls last year and 2009 will not be any better production wise as the bills are not known as a "high octane" offense. Look for QB Trent Edwards to get a notch up the rankings as well as Lee Evans. Marshawn Lynch should benefit too if he is around long enough. I really like Fred Jackson if Lynch's off the field woes continue.

TO out of Dallas-next up OAK or TEN?
The QB Killer everyone loves to hate has been kicked out of Dallas. Jerry Jones has admitted by his recent release of TO (and the lost money to the salary cap) that the TO Experiment was a mistake. Jones apparently will attempt to stabilize the team and allow Tony Romo to establish some chemistry with P Crayton, Roy Williams and Sam Huard plus a possible rookie WR aquistion. My bet is that Roy Williams will be a sleeper in 2009 that really takes off. He is a sleeper because of his poor production after joining the Cowboys but people forget that Romo got hurt shortly thereafter. Look for big things in Big D from RW.
In the meantime that leaves TO and Marvin Harrion both on the outside looking in for a team to take a chance on their veteran bodies.
Who would be the next groom for the camera hungry TO?
1300 yards and 10 TDs a year are a tempting dowry but I can only see OAK and TEN as suitors.
OAK because Al Davis is that desperate and they have no WRs to speak of.
TEN for all the same reasons (just minus the Al Davis thing) and they have a coach and team who can handle TO.
Get your popcorn ready......

WR Fantasy Football Rankings and Projections for 2009-Updated
Brandon Marshal appears headed for some kind of suspension. My guess is at least 3 games (could easily be 8 games even though the charges have been dropped). He was still arrested and that reflects bad on the NFL and the commissioner who gave him another chance. So without further delay............

Cassel goes to KC; Cutler wants out of Denver
Matt Cassel, QB that NE franchised, is going to KC for a second round pick. It is the 34th pick overall in the 2009 draft though. So NE could see some instant improvement with their 2009 draft early picks (23rd and 34th).
The word out of Denver is that Jay Cutler wants to be traded now because Denver wanted Matt Cassel and tried to get him by trading away Cutler. Simply Amazing!!! If true, it was problaby new HC Josh McDaniels wanting to be reunited with Cassel but what were you thinking? Cutler is a Pro Bowl QB and now he is pissed. Ug!
This also means Tyler Thigpen who performed well in the second half of the season (last 10 games- 2200+ passing yds, 16 Tds, 8 Ints, 320 yds rushing, 2 Rushing Tds) will problably be the #2 QB. I think KC should have let the guy play a full season before going after another QB but who am I to say.
This means NE is very confident in Tom Bradys return and thus you should be too. But do not expect more than 28 Tds from him in 2009.
As a side note DET signed Bryant Johnson former SF WR and SF signed former TEN WR Brandon Jones.
