Fantasy Football Index Magazine "Ask the Expert" Question for the Week:
Do you believe there's anything the NFL can (or should) do to encourage playoff teams to keep healthy players playing even in meaningless football games in week 16 and 17?
The simple answer is no. The NFL should not manage a team and coerce them to play players to create meaningful games. If the NFL were to try that, I fear it is a slippery slope that could lead to even bigger problems in the future. Until last week I thought a perfect season was reason enough to try to win a football game.
I guess I was wrong. I have listened to many of the arguments for and against what the Colts did on Sunday. I would have kept them in to win the game. If the starters do not play in week 17, then I believe they were serious about injury concerns. But if Peyton (or the other starters pulled) starts week 17, just to keep his streak going, then I do not know what to think of their decision.

Fantasy Index Magazine "Ask the Expert'
Perceived "third-down backs" like Jamaal Charles, Jerome Harrison and Justin Forsett have had big games over the latter part of the season. It's early, but which of these runners (or some other No. 2 back of your choice) do you think will have the most fantasy value next season?
LeSean McCoy. I do not see Brian Westbrook as an Eagle next year. He has had two concussions this year in a relatively short time span and is concerned about them and his playing career. In the mean time, PHI has a great crop of young players in D. Jackson, J Maclin and McCoy. The Eagles are 7-1 so far without Westbrook and seem to run more often.

"Ask the Expert" Question: The often arbitrary nature of the fantasy playoffs: Unfair, or part of the fun?
Fantasy Football Index Magazine "Ask the Expert" Question for the week: The often arbitrary nature of the fantasy playoffs: Unfair, or part of the fun?
Granted lady luck has some part in the fantasy football outcome, but I am tired of the loser in any given contest blaming “luck”. There are steps (and strategies) you can take to mitigate your risk. Some work, some do not and some work some of the time. Handcuffing your stud RBs backup is a perfect example. Those Larry Johnson owners, who whine about bad “luck” as he is suspended and traded, need to reflect on how they got in the situation in the first place. He was a “bad boy” going into the draft. You knew the risk! If you passed on getting LJs handcuff in Jamaal Charles, then you have nobody to blame but yourself for missing 31 points versus the Bills 30th ranked rush defense. Moreover, you will miss his gift of a good day this week versus the Browns 27th ranked rush D.
Likewise, if you kept just one kicker after the free agency period ended and he is John Carney or Shaun Suisham you are screwed. However, you made the choice to keep only one kicker and probably have an extra RB (who may have turned out to be Quinton Ganther-in which case the strategy worked). Had you gone with a back up kicker (for weather, injuries or suspensions) you might have eight or more points this week (or been without a RB or WR that may have been needed).
So stop blaming everyone but yourself. You draft. You add/drop. And you start/sit em.

4 Fidelity employees fired for Fantasy Football?
Word out of Texas is that four Fidelity employees were fired this week for "gambling on fantasy football" http://www.star-telegram.com/business/story/1825336.html
Several things come to mind...some not printable.
There are always three sides to every story. Your side, their side and the truth, but I want to vent a little about this....
1) Fantasy Football is not gambling. The Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA), spelled this out in 2006 I think.
2) Fidelity needs to look at NCAA march madness pools, Super Bowl pools, sunday football wagers and the monthly poker nights too if they are going to go down this road. I do not think many will escape a "gambling" witch hunt.
3) I see the potential for lawsuits coming Fidelities way from the four fired employees. All were league commissioners.
4) I do not know if I want to invest with a company that thinks this way about fantasy football.
I understand that using company assets/time for fantasy football is wrong and I never advocate that. I even go so far as to discourage it in Fantasy Football Guidebook. But if you are in the restroom does reading about your team constitute usage? What about those millions who go on a smoke break adn talk about their teams? It is just too much.

Week 14 Results for FFGuidebook.com
How did we do in Week 14? Not so great.
We lost in the first round of the FFPC Satellite League thus ending my hopes of $1500. The Fantasy Football Players Championship team floundered with only 129 points and slipped to the middle of the pack in the Championship Bracket (now 25th of 46 teams there).
On the bright side I advanced to the semi finals in my local league. I have one dog in the Rapid Draft fight as Fantasy Football Tips seems to have advanced somewhere and is competing with a ton of other teams for something. So three teams still in some form of playoff hunt going into Week 15. Actually make that 4 since my Fantasy Index Expert League team is still active in 4th place as a long shot with a few weeks left. It is a Draft Masters league that goes thru Week 17 I think.
I went 4-3 overall for the week in the leagues that I were still going, to put me at 74-58-1 for the year.
This weeks Result/Overall Ranking (W/L or TP) BOLD = improvement

"Ask the Expert" Question: Which 2009 star will disappoint in the fantasy post season?
Fantasy Football Index Magazine "Ask the Expert" Question for the week: Pick one of the season's stars to this point that you believe will disappoint in the fantasy postseason. Explain your reasoning.
Two individuals leap to mind.
But first, I consider the fantasy post season to be weeks 14-16. I see the COLTS winning home field advantage throughout the playoffs this week and Peyton Manning playing minimal time in weeks 15 and 16. Another candidate is Thomas Jones. Currently he is the 12th best RB in PPR leagues but I see more carries for Shonn Greene and a few less touches and catches and TDs for TJ. The Jets finish @TB, ATL and @ IND, so look for a let down from the Wahoo.
ASK THE EXPERTS appears weekly at http://www.fantasyindex.com with answers to a new question posted Thursday morning.
Sam Hendricks is the author of Fantasy Football Guidebook, Fantasy Football Tips and Fantasy Football Almanac 2009, all available at his website, http://www.ffguidebook.com, at all major bookstores, and at http://www.amazon.com. He is a 19-year fantasy football veteran who regularly participates in the World Championship of Fantasy Football (WCOFF), National Fantasy Football Championship (NFFC) and finished 7th overall in the 2008 Fantasy Football Players Championship (FFPC).
This year he is 6th overall in the Fantasy Football Players Championship (out of 228 players) going into Week 14.

Week 13 Results for FFGuidebook.com
Week 13 Results for FFGuidebook.com.
How did we do in Week 13? In a word great. I won the playoff game in the FFPC Main Event to secure 3rd place and $500. That brings my Fantasy Football Player Championship winnings to $1500 ($1000 for winning the regular season title and $500 for placing 3rd in the playoffs). Now I start my 3 week run at the $75,000 FFPC Grand Prize and start the playoffs for the FFPC Satellite League I am in (along with my local league playoffs). So started in 10 leagues and 5 of them I am still in the hunt (FFPC Main Event, FFPC Satellite, Lakenheath, Rapid Draft Fantasy Football Tips team, Fantasy Index Expert League)
I went 5-3 overall for the week to put me at 70-55-1 for the year.
This weeks Result/Overall Ranking (W/L or TP) BOLD = improvement
Fantasy Football Players Championship“Joe Montana”Main Event League #10 Win in playoffs second round (6th of 228 in Overall)
FFPC $125 Satellite League #27 Win /3rd place-Advance to Playoffs in week 14 with #3 seed
Local Lakenheath League Win 12-1 /First Place #1 seed and bye in 1st rd of playoffs in week 14
(First time in history of the leaque, 10 years, that a team has gone with 1 loss or less)
Fantasy Sports Magazine Expert League 2 Loss 3-10/ 12th (Season ending injuries to C Portis and D Owens hurt, although I am 5th in the league in Total Points scored so must be doing something right)
Fantasy Draftbook.com Expert League Loss 5-8/ 9th (3 Straight losses have eliminated me from playoff contention)
FFPC Pros vs Joe’s DraftExperts (Draftmasters) Win 8th (Losing Chad Pennington, Jamal Lewis and Daniel Owens for the season do not help this DraftMasters team)
Fantasy Index Expert Auction (Draftmasters) Win 4th (this is a Total Points League and I may be too far behind to catch the leader)
FFPC 77 DraftExperts (Draftmasters) Loss 8th
-------------------------------------------------
5-3 (70-55-1 overall)
NOTE in DraftMaster/Expert leagues that are not H2H a win is defined as beating half of the opponents scores for the week.

"Ask the Expert" Question: Who will be this years Fantasy Football playoffs sleeper?
Fantasy Football Index Magazine "Ask the Expert" Question for the week: Name your sleeper for the fantasy playoffs -- a player who has been average to below-average this season, but will help carry teams to fantasy titles the rest of the way.
One obvious answer is Fred Jackson. He should get more carries now that new BUF coach, Perry Fewell, has decided to give Jackson the main RB duties for the Bills. A real sleeper is Larry Johnson CIN. He has a favorable schedule and has shown some flash for the Bengals filling in during Cedric Bensons' absence. He will not top 100 yards as he did Sunday but he could do some damage with 10 carries a game and DET, SD and KC all ahead. If Benson misses more time, Johnson could see his value soar. As for a WR pick, Jason Avant PHI is making his move and DeSean Jackson missing this week helps him.
ASK THE EXPERTS appears weekly at http://www.fantasyindex.com/ with answers to a new question posted Thursday morning.

Week 12 Results for FFGuidebook.com
Week 12 Results for FFGuidebook.com.
How did we do in Week 12? In a word terrible.
I went 1-7 in my 8 remaining leagues to put me at 65-52-1 for the year. Lost in the FFPC Main Event playoffs so now I am in the consolation bracket playing for third place and $500. So hopefully a win there this week makes things a little better. I did score enough points to move into 4th overall out of the 228 players. So I got that going for me. Which is nice. {Caddy Shack reference}. Unfortunately I am playing a very good team in The Bada Bingers (who are fighting me for total points overall in the Championship too).
This weeks Result/Overall Ranking (W/L or TP)BOLD = improvement
Fantasy Football Players Championship“Joe Montana”Main Event League #10 Loss in playoffs first round (4th of 228 in Overall)

Fantasy Draftbook.com Expert League Loss 5-7/ 8th (Only 2 games left and 2 games out of 4th place and a spot at the playoffs)

Fantasy Football Tips #210: Plan ahead especially with QBs and concussions
This is probably one of those Duhhhhhhhh comments but with the leagues concern (and rightly so) about concussions; it appears that 1 game out to recover may be the minimum time off.
I had a bad feeling that Ben Rothlisberger and Kurt Warner both might miss Week 12 and they did! Even though both professed health and all tests good-neither played.
So what can we learn from this little exercise. Have a back up. Plan and think ahead. If you suspect that your QB may not play for any reason-have an alternate to start.
This week I had Big Ben and Matt Stafford as my QBs in the Main Event of the Fantasy Football Players Championship (FFPC, http://www.theffpc.com/). I planned to start Ben R. but as I mentioned earlier, I had a sinking feeling that Ben might not play. Well with Stafford unlikely to play (hmmmm or so I and the rest of the world thought) I decided to drop Stafford and add another QB who would get me the most points in week 12 should Ben somehow not play.
I had several choices: Jake Delhomme, Matt Cassel, Kyle Orton or Jason Campbell.
Delhomme just plain sucks, so he was out. Orton was my next choice, but since he played Thursday night he would not do me any good as a b/u since he would play days before Big Ben.
That left Cassell or Campbell.
I added Jason Campbell through the Waiver Wire and voila'....20+ points from 2 passing TDs and a rushing TD.
