Which currently unsigned veteran are you most likely to use a late-round pick on?

I would take a chance on WR Matt Jones. Seven of his 12 games last year (before suspension) were 60-plus yard games with a 6 catch average. He will start on most teams needing WR help. Expect him to play this year.

Tip # 202 of Fantasy Football Tips by Sam Hendricks

Tip #202. Play in Free Leagues that give away prizes!
Yes you read correctly. There are some free leagues out there that give away great prizes to the winners. Usually you have to be the overall winner (like in beating 100,000 other players) but still it does not cost anything and you get a chance (albeit astronomical) of winning something.

Some examples from past years.

NFL.COM Win Trip to the Super Bowl
ESPN.COM Win Trip to the Pro Bowl plus a LC gets a T -shirt/bobblehead
NBCSPORTS 100K Challenge Win $100,000

The price is right for these leagues and with as little as 5 minutes of your time each week (and a fun 3 hours of drafting) you could win a ton!

Do you know of other free contests that give away things?

Who is the most overrated player you've seen in drafts thus far?

Tom Brady is going in many drafts as the top QB, late in the second round. But his 50 TD 2007 season was an anomaly, not a standard. Expect a regression to his mean (28 TDs are a better projection) and 4th best QB. Anyone drafting him in the second or third round will be disappointed, even if he does fully recover from his 2008 knee injury.

Who is the most underrated player you've seen in drafts thus far?

I will go one better and give you one at each position. QB has to be Brett Favre. He is going to play for Minnesota, so stop ranking him 33rd and put him 20th. Reggie Bush was a Top 10 RB in the first half of '08 before his injury, now he is going in the fourth round. He is a steal, especially in PPR leagues. Jerricho Cotchery is finally a No. 1 WR and yet he ranks 30th on many cheat sheets. The Jets will play from behnd and either QB will get him the ball (make him 18th). Finally, Owen Daniels has improved every year going into this his fourth season and yet he ranks eighth at TE. He is a top-5 TE in 2009.

Which training camp battle will you be watching most closely?

Many will select the Denver, Baltimore or Arizona running back situation; instead look at the Giants WR battle. Hakeem Nicks, Steve Smith and Domenik Hixon will all be fighting for a starting spot. If one really stands out in training camp he may be worth drafting at about WR30. Although all should see some significant action, Eli Manning’s go-to-guy could end up in the neighborhood of 70 catches, 800 yards and a half-dozen TDs.

NFL draft starts on Thurs APR 22 at 7:30 EST. What do you think of that?

According to NFL.com
"The NFL draft will kick off in prime time for the first time in 2010, it was announced Thursday. The first round of the 2010 NFL Draft will start on Thursday, April 22 at 7:30 p.m. ET, with the second and third rounds on Friday, April 23 at 6:30 p.m. ET, followed by Rounds 4-7 on Saturday, April 24 at 10 a.m. ET."

This is ridiculous to me. The first round on Saturday in 2009 drew 6.3 Million viewers.
How can they expect that same amount on Thursday at 7:30 ET.
West Coast fans will still be at work or in traffic. If it is Thurs in primetime now other family members (stereotyping the NFL fan as male, head of the householder) will want to watch their shows at 8 PM.
I know why this move was made (ad revenue on Prime time TV versus Saturday and Sunday afternoon) but I really think it will mean fewer fans watch it.

Previously diehard NFL fans made the draft an event with parties or at least an outting to the sports bar to watch the first two rounds. Now any hope for a party at your house is out (unless you want to take the afternoon off).

If it aint broke don't fix it.
I have to think this is the worst decision Commissioner Goodell has made. I truly believe the fans were not considered much in this process.

Fantasy Football questions for 2009?

There are still way too many questions that need to be answered before the season starts.
Such as:
1) Who will be the starting RB at BAL, AZ, DEN and maybe even IND
2) Which QB will start at DET, NYJ, TB and GB
3) Which WR will be the #3 guy in IND? Pierre Garcon or Austin Collie
4) What will the entire starting WR corps look like for the Giants?
5) Who will be MJD's handcuff?
6) How will the SEA RBBC shakeout?
7) Will DeAngelo Williams lose carries to a healthy Jonathan Stewart?
8) Who backs up MB3 and how much? F Jones or Tashard Choice?
9) Who is the TE at BAL? Heap or LJ Smith or someone else?
10) Is M Crabtree the next Randy Moss?

I only know one thing for sure. It sure will be fun getting the answers....bring on the training camps!

Matt Stafford likely to start for Lions in Sept

Mathew Stafford is likely to beat out Dante Culpepper for the starting QB job in Detroit. This means I move him to 25th in the QB rankings. Ahead of JaMarcus Russell (26th) who is looking poor in camp and may find Garcia passing him on the depth chart; but below Jake Delhomme (24th) and Chad Pennington (23rd).

Who do the Experts think is the most overrated Fantasy Football Player so far in 2009?

Look here to find out what everyone said:

www.fantasyindex.com/content_sections/display_entry/1555/

My vote is Tom Brady. You have to be crazy to think he can repeat with his 50 TDs from 2007 even if he does recover from the knee injury.

Who is the most underrated Fantasy Football player this season so far?

Based on my drafts so far (Fantasy Football Index Experts-Auction, Fantasy Diehards Magazine Expert, Fantasy Sports Magazine-K2 Experts League, RapidDraft, etc) here are my four picks:

QB Brett Favre-FA You know chances are good that he plays in Minn this year; so why not take a flyer on him as your QB2 and see what happens. Most cheat sheets are listing him at 33rd QB and frankly I would rather draft him on upside than many of the QBs after 20th.

QB Trent Edwards-BUF Many of the rankings have him at somewhere around 20th. I see lots of potential here throwing to possibly two Top 20 WRs. He should be drafted as a QB2 with lots of upside and little downside.

RB Reggie Bush-NO In PPR leagues Bush is more valuable and he still is going 40th overall. Last year he was in the Top 10 half way through the season before his injury. He has great hands and moves when he gets in space. He will compliment Pierre Thomas and could be a Top 15 RB. He is a steal in the early 4th round these days.

RB Julius Jones RB-SEA Jim Mora likes to run and this will be the last chance for Jones. He is listed as 29th on the RB rankings but keeps falling in drafts to more of a 35th RB spot. If SEA does not get any outside RB help in the form of a FA then plan on Jones as a Top 25 RB.

WR Donnie Avery-WR STL Avery is going in the 8th round (WR32) in most drafts but this #1 WR at STL (Torry Holt moves on to JAX) should be a Top 20 WR. Look for big things as the Rams play from behind more often than not.

TE Owen Daniels-HOU Daniels had 70 catches for 862 yards and two TDs last year and yet is the 90th overall player and 8th TE in many rankings this year. He has improved in every year going into this his fourth year. He is a Top 5 TE (especially in PPR Leagues), nudging out KW2 who goes to a new TB team.
