Week 4 Adds/Drops, Waiver wire information

Approaching many leagues Friday 9 PM add/drop waiver wire deadline here are a few sleepers and possible short term and long term adds.

QB: Check to see if Matt Hasselbeck or Jason Campbell are still available both are LT QB adds. Curtis Painter is starting and must be considered with all of the receiving talent he will play with...but...

RB: Steven Ridley NE could get more work long term, A. Green, GB could see spot duty this week with Ryan Grant out and James Starks looking so-so in week 3, Kendall Hunter SF may get more carries with Gore hurting (but apparently playing); Alfonso Smith AZ is sure to have value if Beanie cannot go; deep sleeper Steve Slaton was added by Miami as Daniel Thomas may not go this week due to a hammy; deep sleeper is Cedric Peerman DET RB with Jahvid Best having thigh issues

WR: Donnie Avery is signed by TEN, Kevin Ogletree gets another start at DAL with Austin out and Dez Bryant banged up, Patrick Crayton is a great ST start with Vincent Jackson and Malcolm Floyd dubious; Torrey Smith last weeks starter with BAL gets the nod again as Lee Evans is out; Jasan Avant is a sneaky play with Jeremy Maclin complaining of a hammy injury

Best of luck with your bids!

Ask the Expert Question: Which rookie WR is best going forward?

Several rookie wideouts have carved out big roles or had breakout games already - A.J. Green, Torrey Smith, Denarius Moore, etc. Of these players, which one do you like best the rest of the season, and why?

Denarius Moore. He looked great in the preseason and now gets every chance to start. No other OAK WR has any value as they cannot stay on the field. A.J.Green is probably higher ranked going forward by most, but my bet is on Moore and the arm of Jason Campbell as the Raiders throw their way out of most games.

Fantasy Football Tips #214: The longer the time between your draft and week 1, the greater the need to add/drop after week 1

After the season starts many leagues allow each owner to have a $1000 free agent acquisition budget (FAAB). Owners use their FAAB to bid on players not on other teams (i.e available) that they want to add to their own team. These free agents can be used to fill a bye week replacement, substitute for an injured player or simply improve a weak area on your team.

As you ponder who to drop or if to drop, consider this: the longer the time between your draft and the end of week 1 the more you should have to change a few things (all else being equal). The opposite applies too. If you drafted on the Saturday before the start of the NFL season (i.e 1 day before the Sunday kickoff), you should not need to adjust/change your roster as much than if you drafted a month or more before the season started.

Season ending injuries will need to be corrected and a promising star from the first week may require some add/drops to take a flier on him, but in general remember why you drafted a player and evaluate if one week is really long enough a trial period for them. Don't drop someone just because they did not play in week 1 or had a bad week. Look at matchups, injuries, game plan (did they fall behind early or get out to a huge lead thus changing the way the player was used).

The longer the time between the draft and week 1 the more changes (adds/drops) that should be needed.

Fox versus CBS-is it me or does Fox look worse?

I watched two great early NFL games on CBS in NE vs BUF and HOU vs NO. I could not help myself from switching back and forth...they were great games and great coverage. The pictures seemed crisp and bright. Now I am watching two Fox games GB vs CHI and ATL vs TB. The pictures look further away. It seems like the Fox cameras are not as close as the CBS cameras were. The closeups look pretty much the same, but the field views of the entire play seem as if the CBS pictures were much closer and clearer. Hmmm it may be me. Anyone else notice this phenomenon? Maybe I am just spoiled from the NFL Sunday Ticket and Red Zone coverage I saw the first week while on vacation at my moms house in Virginia.

One thing is for sure. I have seen it the past 3 weeks. Fox does not cover the other football games stats as well with their ticker at the bottom of the screen. There were way too many promos on it. CBS gives great scores, stats and scoring updates.

How are we doing in all of the leagues this year?

First of all I am in 11 leagues this year. I know, I know I preach to avoid playing in too many leagues because it wears you down and takes some of the joy out of fantasy football when you have every player on one of your teams. Ultimately you end up rooting for and against the players every week because you are in so many leagues. In my defense 5 of the 11 are Expert leagues and the remaining 6 are money leagues. One is the high stakes Fantasy Football Players Championship (www.theFFPC.com). Lets see how I did last week. Follow along by using the links to each league.

Ask the Expert: What player would you buy low on now and why?

Pick a slow starter you'd be looking to buy low on this week, and why.

With all of the injuries in week 2 (and more to come due to a reduced training schedule) there is a plethora of options out there. However, two I like are Delone Carter, RB, IND and Jacquizz Rodgers, RB, ATL in that order. Carter is #2 to Joseph Addai who has not been stellar and has some injury history in his long career. Rodgers is stealing more and more snaps from "burner" Turner. Neither have put up noticeable FF stats, but given a chance could be #1 RBs in the next few weeks.  Kevin Ogletree is a sneaky play short term for a few weeks with Miles Austin and Dez Bryant both banged up in Dallas.

Owners use their FAAB to bid on players not on other teams (i.e available) that they want to add to their own team. These free agents can be used to fill a bye week replacement, substitute for an injured player or simply improve a weak area on your team.

One thing to watch for is an opponent who has a player hurt for the week you play them. For example, your opponent learns on Wed that his stud TE is out for 2 weeks due to a suspension. Now he may be considering adding the TE who plays for his suspended player. (Example, Chris Cooley out Fred Davis now starts or Dallas Clark out, Jacob Tamme now plays). If it is late in the season and you have some FAAB to burn you may want to see how much $ he has left and OUTBID his maximum possible by $1. That way he cannot get the good replacement that is a sure thing. Something to think about when "blocking" an opponent.
Even if you do not win the player at least you have guaranteed that your opponent does not have him against you this week. If you do win the bid you might have the luxury of using him against your opponent. That is a sweet hit my friend.

QBs are strong but again weak at RB with the Foster disaster. Insurance in the form of handcuffs Ward and Tate have paid off but may prove to costly to be competitive. Fred Jackson is a nice surprise and GJ and Miles Austin are two solid WRs. 3 starting TEs take all of the flex duties.

I like this team less and less as the days go by after the draft. Tom Brady as QB has been money. Unfortunately RB is weak with Chris Johnson being less than himself and DeAngelo Williams well enough said. 2 good WRs is not enough and 2 strong TEs does not help the weak RBs.
