Fantasy Index Expert Auction draft 2010-my team

My second FF draft of the 2010 season.

Here is my team from the auction draft a few weeks ago for the Fantasy Football Index Experts League. You can read about the rest of the league and my rankings and comments in the upcoming issue due out 1 July.

The league is essentially a draftmasters (draftexperts) league in that it it draft and forget. No trades, add/drops or start/bench decisions. What you draft is what you got all season and the computer picks your best possible starting lineup each week after the scores are tabulated.

It is a 22 man roster and starts 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, 1 K and 1 DEF in a NON PPR performance league.

I go with 3 QBs and TEs to maximize my points in those categories since I went weak there. I would do the same at K and DEF (draft 3 per position) if this were a 25 man roster league, but alas it is limited to 22 players.

QB
Carson Palmer, Cin QB $9
Alex Smith, SF QB $7 (My sleeper QB-could be Top 15)
Jake Delhomme, Cle QB $1 (May be in a QBBC in Cle-which would suck for me)

RB
Ryan Grant, GB RB $37
DeAngelo Williams, Car RB $30
Jahvid Best, Det RB $16 (Kevin Smith will not be 100% this year, the rookie gets the start from day 1)
Michael Bush, Oak RB $7 (Could easily be the starter for OAK week 1 and definitely will get his touches)
Leon Washington, Sea RB $6 (Looks great now that LenDale White has been released by Seattle)
Brandon Jackson, GB RB $1 (handcuff for Ryan Grant)

WR
Reggie Wayne, Ind WR $31
Chad Ochocinco, Cin WR $17
Santana Moss, Was WR $11 (With a better QB throwing to him (McNabb) the sky is the limit)
Steve Breaston, Ari WR $7 (#2 WR in AZ now)
Anthony Gonzalez, Ind WR $1 (Great sleeper)
Arrelious Benn, TB WR $1 (TB needs a WR..so took a flyer on the rookie)

TE
Owen Daniels, Hou TE $7
Chris Cooley, Was TE $6
Marcedes Lewis, Jac TE $1

K
David Akers, Phi K $1
Jason Hanson, Det K $1

DEF
Redskins D/ST, Was D/ST $1
Falcons D/ST, Atl D/ST $1

I really like Alex Smith ($7), Javhid Best ($16), Michael Bush ($7), Leon Washington ($6) and Anthony Gonzalez ($1). The tandem of Owen Daniels and Chris Cooley could be huge too. Especially when I do not have to decide who to start, the computer does it for me!!!

Just goes to show that some money at the end of the draft always buys bargains.

One regret, wish I had gotten another WR $1 instead of the handcuff for Ryan Grant. Oh well.

Great online show about Fantasy Football called "Fantasy over Reality"

Wow. Just got around to watching this online video series (guess that's what we call these things?) and loved episodes 1 and 2.

For those who do not know, Fantasy over Reality is a show/video series about a Fantasy Football league. Episode one deals with finding out who is in and who is out for FF for the coming year. Episode two deals with the draft.

The actors, actresses, acting and cinematography look good and there are some big name NFL stars (MJD, Mike Sims Walker) who will appear in upcoming episodes.

Each episode is about 10 minutes long so it will not take you too long to watch.

Each episdode can be seem here
www.fantasyoverreality.com/

but I would recommend the site below (since the first one seems to take a while to load)

see it here at the World Championship of Fantasy Football (WCOFF) website.
http://www.wcofs.com/site/wcoff/fantasyoverreality

Overall: Really smart stuff, not too over the top, humorous and cute and it reminded me of some of my leagues ...oh and it also has some eye candy.

Great new FF contest: Footballguys Players Championship

OK, I just signed up for the Footballguys Players Championship (FPC).

I love it!
It is a match made in heaven between two of my favorite FF companies: http://www.footballguys.com/ and http://www.theffpc.com/.

I will go into more detail in another blog post, in the mean time here are some quick details.

Entry fee $350

$50,000 grand prize guaranteed no mattter how many teams play. Prizes go up after 600 teams enter.

League prizes of $1,950 (1st place =$1600 cash or FFPC 2011 Main Event Entry plus $250 cash (the better bargain); 2nd place $350 (so you get your entry fee back)

Rules are based on FFPC

12-team leagues, online draft, PPR, 20 man roster, start 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, 1 K, 1 DEF/ST and 2 Flex players (RB/WR/TE)

Drafts start 1 Aug and run thru Sep 8.

Almost forgot the best news.
Early Bird Incentives
***Sign up before 1 June (1 week left) and receive complimentary Fooballguys 1 year subscription, $25 value (3 year sub ($75 value) if you get a 3 pack of teams)*******
Buy a 3 Pack for just $1,000 saving $50.

Early Registration Incentives: Each owner which enters a single team into the FPC prior to June 1, 2010 will receive a complimentary Footballguys.com subscription for the 2010 season (a $27.95 value). If the owner is already subscribed for the 2010 season, the complimentary subscription will be awarded for the following year. Each owner which purchases the 3-pack prior to June 1, 2010 will receive a complimentary 3-year Footballguys.com subscription for the 2010, 2011 and 2012 seasons (a $75 value). If the owner is already subscribed for the 2010-2012 seasons, the complimentary subscription will be awarded for the following years.

I am in . See you there too!

$350 is the perfect point to be above the $100 other leagues and well below the costly High Stakes Leagues ($1,000-2,000). {Don't get me wrong I am still playing the Fantasy Football Players Championship (FFPC) this year, but I like another mid range league and this is the perfect fit}

The first FF draft of 2010.

This is from my first 2010 draft.

It is an Experts draft for an upcoming magazine.

The format is 12-team, active free agency, no PPR, 16 man roster that starts:

1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, 1 K and 1 DEF (not special teams though).

Scoring is 3 pts Pa TD, 6 other TDs, 1 pt per 20 passing yds, 1 pt per 10 rushing or receiving yards, FGs are 3 pts, Defenses get 2 pts per sack and safety, 1 pt per turnover and 6 pts for DEF TDs.

I had the 2nd pick overall

Final Roster
Pos Name Bye Team Pick
QB Peyton Manning 7 IND R3 P2
QB Alex Smith 9 SF R14 P11
RB Adrian Peterson 4 MIN R1 P2
RB Brandon Jacobs 8 NYG R5 P2
RB Ahmad Bradshaw 8 NYG R6 P11
RB Reggie Bush 10 NO R8 P11
RB Leon Washington 5 SEA R11 P2
RB Toby Gerhart 4 MIN R12 P11
WR Roddy White 8 ATL R2 P11
WR Michael Crabtree 9 SF R4 P11
WR Steve Breaston 6 ARI R7 P2
WR Donnie Avery 9 STL R9 P2
WR Nate Burleson 7 DET R13 P2
TE Chris Cooley 9 WAS R10 P11
K Stephen Gostkowski 5 NE R15 P2
DEF Cincinnati Bengals 6 CIN R16 P11

Thoughts:

1) Chris Johnson is the definite #1 and MJD or AP are tied for 2nd.

2) I took Peyton Manning too early. I like to grab a great QB in these expert leagues because they are not the highest thing on my To-DO list in mid season when I am managing family, work and a dozen money fantasy football leagues. This way I can plug in Manning and forget about start/bench decisions. You can wait on QB!

3) Speaking of waiting. There is so much depth at TE this year. Wait, wait, wait! Any of the top 13 TEs are workable. I love Chris Cooley with McNabb throwing to him in the 10th round with the 119th overall pick. Zach Miller went one before Cooley.

4) Go with youth at WR2 and WR3. There are some good 3rd year candidates out there. Donnie Avery, Devin Thomas and Davone Bess to name a few. Steve Breaston has a little more experience and moves into the #2 WR spot with the departure of Anquan Boldin. Leinarts QB play is the only question mark for Breaston.

5) If you get Adrian Peterson (with the 1st, 2nd or 3rd pick of the draft) you absolutely must handcuff him to Toby Gerhart. That is cheap insurance, based on AP's injury history, with the next to last pick in round 12.

6) The more I think about Leon Washington running for Pete Carroll in SEA the quicker I draft him. I reached for him here and I think that means I need to rank him higher.

Fantasy Football Tips # 211: Watch carefully who the top team drops

Fantasy Football Tip #211: Watch carefully who the top team drops. Many times you may be trying to catch a team loaded with talent who is leading the league. If they drop a player to add another, often they are forced to drop an otherwise good player simply because they have too much talent at a certain position. When this happens, their trash can be your treasure. Often the player the top team cannot afford to carry any longer will be an upgrade for your team. There are times when a QB or TE or even a good WR will be dropped to make room for a handcuff or a bye week replacement on the top team. So watch who is dropped carefully and evaluate whether their discarded player can actually improve your team and allow you to have a better team for your playoff matches later in the season. The chances are greater that a great team drops a player you can use. Rarely does a bad team drop a player that you can use.

Fantasy Football Tips has 201 tips like this all for $10.95 and available from Amazon, BN and other retailers.

Conference call with Tony Dorsett

YesterYear Fantasy Football is a new site that offers FF 52 weeks a year with every player that has ever played football. Not only can you pick greats like Tony Dorsett or Fred Biletnikoff for your fantasy team but you may also face them in your league as on opponent/owner.

I am currently playing in a league at YesterYear FF. I am 18th in the Fantasy Sports Writers Association Challenge (http://fswa.yyfantasy.com/Challenge). We had a conference call yesterday with some of the minds behind YesterYear and Tony Dorsett, RB DAL just happened to be on the line too! He spoke of his 99 yard TD run.......hmmmm that was versus my Vikings...arg! Thanks for reminding me Tony. LOL

The behind the scenes individiuals seem very interested in making YesterYear a quality product. Keep them in mind.

Take a look at my team.
