  • Format

  • FPC is comprised of 12 team leagues with 20 roster spots.

  • Draft format is classic serpentine: 1-12, 12-1, 1-12, etc.

  • Regular season is Weeks 1-11.

  • League Playoffs are Weeks 12 & 13.

  • Championship Round and Consolation Round are Weeks 14-16.

  • League Playoffs: At the end of the regular season, the two top seeds from each league each earn an automatic berth into the Championship Round, regardless of how they perform in the League Playoffs. The four top seeds (including the two above) from each league will compete in the 2-week, head-to-head League Playoff in Weeks 12 & 13. The winners of the Week 12 match-ups will play each other in Week 13 for the League Championship. The League Champion and runner up will win cash awards as described in the prize structure.
Championship Round: In addition to the cash awards, each League Champion will win a berth in the Championship Round, if they have not already secured an automatic berth after the regular season. In other words, if Seed 3 or Seed 4 wins the League Championship, that team will also move on to the Championship Round along with Seeds 1 & 2. A minimum of two and a maximum of three teams per league will qualify for the Championship Round. Any League Playoff team which did not qualify into the Championship Round will enter the Consolation Round. In addition, any team which did not qualify for the League Playoffs but finished in the top 20% of the FPC Overall Leaderboard at the conclusion of Week 11 will qualify for the Consolation Round (i.e. based on 1200 teams, the top 240 teams are considered as the top 20%). All teams which did not qualify for the League Playoffs will enter the Toilet Bowl in Weeks 12-16.
Free Agents: The Free Agent process is via blind bidding. Each team will be given 1000 blind bidding "dollars".

Roster/Scoring: The FPC starting lineup allows for two (2) flex positions, also known as the Dual-Flex. The scoring system gives 1 point per reception for RBs & WRs but also gives 1.5 points per reception for TEs, putting extra weight to the TE position. Action scoring is implemented for all TDs: any TD scored by a player is scored as 6 points to that individual player, in addition to any D/ST scoring that may apply. Stat errors will be automatically corrected using Elias Sports Bureau. The deadline for lineup submission for each player via web site or email is the scheduled start time of the game in which the player is participating.

    Starting Roster

  • 1 QB

  • 2 RBs

  • 2 WRs

  • 1 TE

  • 2 flex players (RB/WR/TE)

  • 1 K

  • 1 D/ST

  • Scoring system

  • 4 points for passing TDs, 6 points for all other TDs

  • 0.05 point for every 1 yard passing

  • 0.1 point for every 1 yard rushing or receiving

  • 1 point per reception for RBs and WRs

  • 1.5 points per reception for TEs

  • 3 points for every FG of 1 - 30 yards plus 0.1 point for every yard thereafter

  • 1 point for D/ST sack, 2 points for all turnovers

  • 6 points for all D/ST touchdowns

  • 5 points for every safety

  • 12 points for every shutout

  • 8 points for allowing between 1 - 6 points

  • 5 points for allowing between 7 - 10 points

  • I love these leagues and play in them each year. Hope to see you there.

Fantasy Sports participation grows over 60% in last 4 years

32 million people now play Fantasy Sports in the U.S and Canada alone, up from 30.6M in 2010.
According to research from Ipsos, one in five males played fantasy sports last year.
Ipsos conducted the research for the Fantasy Sports Trade Association (FSTA).

The FSTA met in June of this year and if you will remember a previous post - failed to act on the WCOFF late payment situation.
In my opinion Fantasy Football has to be the largest sport, but fantasy baseball is a close second and Fantasy Soccer appears to be increasing too based on Major League Soccer growth.

12% of Americans and Canadians over the age of 12 appear to have played fantasy sports in the past 12 months.

“The fantasy sport industry continues to grow at a strong rate even through tough economic times,” said FSTA President Paul Charchian. “The combination of great passion for the hobby and inexpensive participation has made fantasy sports very recession resilient. We’re delighted to see participation numbers continue to grow.”

The survey also supported the premise that more males play fantasy sports than females. Other statistics showed that college educated individuals are twice as likely to have played a fantasy sport, the same can be said for employed versus unemployed.

Hall of Fame game casualty of Lockout

Looks as if we are very close to a deal on the NLF lockout. Reports indicate a return to normal in the coming week-either Wed or Friday. Of course, lost in all the hoopla is the fact that the Hall of Fame game has been cancelled. A sacrificial lamb, so to speak, for the greed of both sides.

The 18 game season appears to be dead in the water as well.

Watch out for Rookies and Free Agents who go to a different team this year!

Both of these types of players (Rookies and Free Agents who move to a new team) should not be trusted as much as previous years. Both have absolutely no time preparing with their new teams and thus are well behind the normal off season progression. This does not mean "don't draft them", instead be wary of them and their hype and expect much less than in a normal "non lockout" season.

Another casualty of the lockout will be more injuries this year so that pernicious lady luck will be more prevalent in 2011. I hate luck.

NFL Deal still not done. 18 Game season...

While many hoped for a deal this weekend, it looks as if the lawayers still have some work ahead.
Both the NFL (lead by Commissioner Roger Goodell-hubby to Jane Skinner formerly of FoxNews fame) and NFLPA (lead by DeMaurice Smith) plan to meet on Monday or Tuesday next week to finish up negotiations. I doubt it will be that easy but I am cautiously optimistic that a deal is done by THURSDAY (21 July) so that owners can vote on it then.

I have not heard much mentioned about the 18 game regular season for future years.

Fantasy Football Guidebook is once again in the 2011 FFPC Pros vs Joes Draft Challenge

The 2011 FFPC Pros vs Joes Draft Challenge concept is simple. Take a group of hard core FFPC fantasy players (the Joes) and pit them against a contingent of fantasy industry experts (the Pros). It has many teams participating this year (half pros and half Joes). The overall field is divided into separate 'Divisions'. Each division of 12 conducts their own draft. The highest scoring team across all divisions is crowned the 2011 FFPC Pros vs Joes Champion.

Selection of Joes and Pros for this event is now in progress.
The individual divisions consist of 12 teams. 6 Pros and 6 Joes.
There will be 7 Divisions this year with 74 total teams (36 Pros and 36 Joes)

Each division conducts their own 26 round draft, and will compete within their division to win the league crown. Points scored across all divisions determines an overall winner. The team with the highest overall points is the 2011 Pros vs Joes Draft Challenge Champion!

    League Format
The format is FFPC DraftExperts (or Best Ball). In this format, your best performing players at each position are automatically used for your lineup, based on that week's results. Points are calculated through week 16. This is a total points league, you do not 'compete' againt any other individual team in a given week. You are shooting for total points accumulated over the year. The highest scoring team across all the divisions, at the end of 16 weeks, is crowned the 2011 FFPC Pros vs Joes Draft Challenge Champion There are no waiver wire pickups, or setting of lineups each week. There are no trades, or trading of picks. You do not spend any time managing your team during the season. This is a draft it and forget it league, showcasing your drafting skills, and preseason assessment of players. No babysitting of your team is required, and we can all sit back and follow the standings as the season progresses.

    Drafting
Each league conducts its own 26 round live draft. This year, the drafts will be held on RTSports.com

The 26 round live drafts will be done in serpentine fashion.

The division competitors and draft slots will be announced: Friday 15 July 2011

Draft positions will be allocated such that pros and joes will alternate, 1-12. Therefore, you will always have a competitor drafting on either side of you. Additionally, we will alternate initial draft position in each league. This means that in League 1, a Joe will occupy draft slot one. In League 2, a Pro will occupy draft slot one.

    Draft Dates:

    •Sunday, July 24th at 9 PM EST
    •Sunday, July 24th at 10 PM EST
    •Monday, July 25th at 9 PM EST
    •Monday, July 25th at 10 PM EST
    •Tuesday, July 26th at 9 PM EST
    •Tuesday, July 26th at 10 PM EST
    •Wednesday, July 27th at 9 PM EST

    Roster Configuration
You will draft 26 players in a standard serpentine format. The 26 players you draft are the 26 players that will be on your team the entire year. Again, there are no waiver wire moves. "Draft It and Forget It", right? We are following the format based on the FFPC DraftExperts Leagues. Of those 26 players, the system will automatically fill out your lineup with your best performing players at each position. Your weekly lineup will consist of the following:

    •1 QB
    •2 RB
    •2 WR
    •1 TE
    •2 Flex (RB,WR,TE)
    •1 K
    •1 D

    Scoring
The scoring system is FFPC scoring. Basically this is a Points Per Reception league, but with the twist of 1.5 points per catch for tight ends. For the gory details, you can go here (http://www.theffpc.com/), but so long as you know the benefits of PPR, you are good to go.

As a "bounty" I am awarding a First Edition Fantasy Football Guidebook to any Joe who wins his league.

Don't pop the champagne yet on a NFL and Players agreement

Optimism still abounds but the feelings of a 15 July date are slipping. Many now feel that a deal can be done by 21 July in time for the owners to ratify it at their meeting. This last minute deal could scuttle the Hall of Fame game though. Players do need some time to practice before hitting each other. Some have said that if a deal is done around 21 July the full preseason can occur but the coaches for each team in the HOF game will have a gentlemens agreement on what can and cannot happen to minimize the potential for injuries.

I just want this whole mess to over with.

Buyers remorse with 4th pick of Pro Forecast Experts Draft

I cannot give away too many details of Tuesdays Fantasy Football Pro Forecast Expert Draft until the magazine hits bookstores. The date for this will soon be determined. Hopefully the lockout is ended in the next 2 weeks and the 2011 season can start on schedule (Ok without the OTAs that we missed). I would guess that Fantasy Football Pro Forecast magazine will be available the 1st of August, but that is just an educated guess not insider information. But I digress...

What I can tell you is that I held the 4th pick overall and expected my #1 RB Jamaal Charles to fall to me there. I was not expecting an owner to take Mike Vick before me. Vick tapered off in Dec and Jan of last year when defenses hit him with blitz packages and everything but the kitchen sink. So I think there is a chance he regresses a bit in 2011 but who knows.

Back to my point, one of the fab 3 RBs (Adrian Foster, Adrian Peterson and Chris Johnson) was available to me. My choice was Chris Johnson or Jamaal Charles (who I have #1 overall).

I put my money where my mouth is and drafted Jamaal Charles but regretted it afterwards. Even though I like Charles to be the best RB this year I am here to tell you it is tough to draft him ahead of the fab 3 mentioned earlier. Just saying...been there...done that and had some buyers remorse. Something to think about at the 1.04 spot if Vick goes early.

Looks like both sides in NFL lockout are getting closer to agreement

I have been optimistic before (Expecting a deal before the NFL Draft in April) but this time it feels different. I predict a deal by Friday July 15th. If so, then the Hall of Fame game on 7 August will proceed as scheduled and the 2011 NFL season can start on time.

Both sides are rumored to be close to hammering out the details on the revenue sharing and the lawyers have been seen working on the behind the scene issues too.

If they do not have a deal by then revenues from the preseason games start to be missed and that hits everyone in the wallet.

Fantasy Football Leagues...start your trash talking.

Sales of Fantasy Football books down 50%

Sales of both paperback and kindle versions of all of my books are down 50% for the year from 2010. FFers are just turning their back on anything football related until the two sides (NFL Owners and Players) come to an agreement and start the 2011 season.

At that point. free agency can begin albeit an accelerated one!

It should be a fast and furious preseason with training camps starting on 22 July and the first preseason game on August 7th.

Of course, this all assumes the NFL comes to its senses and both parties hammer out an agreement in the next 2 weeks.

This summer is not the same...less zing in the drafts!

I participated in the Fantasy Football Pro Forecast magazine draft last night with 11 other experts (including Maurice Jones Drew). More on that draft this weekend. But I have to admit it was not the same "rush" of previous years. In fact, all of my drafts this year have been that way. Just not the same excitement as in years past. The lockout is "draining" the energy from fantasy football fans everywhere and the NFL owners and players need to realize this and "get her done!"

I am still cautiously optimistic that both sides stop the bleeding and come to a deal before the training camps start on 22 July. If not, then preseason games are in danger and that means real money loss for both sides.
