Fantasy Football Tips #213 For New QBs-Play Action Pass is their friend

The play action pass is an easy pass for a new or inexperienced QB. They fake a handoff to the RB then turn back on half of the field and look at 2 options on the other side of the field. What could be easier. They either look to primary option down field or dump the ball off to the outlet usually the RB coming out of the backfield. So with rookie, new or inexperienced QBs expect more passes to the RBs (if they can catch) and to 1 primary WR.

NFL-Player talks Predictions?

Deal gets done but after March 4th CBA expiration. So a lock out will occur.
I predict a deal is done the week before the NFL draft (Draft starts on Thurs 28 April and runs thru Sat 30 April).
So look for a settlement/compromise/deal whatever you want to call it the week of 18-22 April (more than likely on Friday 22 April or even Sat-Sunday thereafter). The NFL will really want it done before the Draft week hoopla.

Outcomes:
-16 game season in 2011, 18 Game season in 2012 and beyond (2 less preseason games)
-Better health care and a baseline pension for retired players
-Cap on first round draft picks compensation-it really is crazy that the 10th pick of the 1st round of the NFL draft can make more before stepping on the field than a vet at the same position.
-Expanded rosters
-Some disciplinary punishment adjustments-either Goodell has to have a more transparent policy on how it is dissed out or some secondary appeal process will be created.
-Some kind of revenue protection scheme to give the owners their share first to compensate for known upfront costs that they are bearing.

NFL doldrums+Valentines day argggggggggg!

I seem to remember reading somewhere that Christmas and Valentines day had the most suicides. I cannot speak for Christmas but this past Sunday 13 Feb (the day before Valentines day) was pretty bleak. I can see why some people are affected emotionally by the 14th day in Feb. especially as it is near the first Sunday without football on TV.
I mean think about it. Imagine if you are single and without a girlfriend (I spent most of my adult life in this position so I can throw stones here people). You turn on your TV on the first Sunday without football only to find NBA basketball, golf and wait on it PBA Bowling. Ohhhhh pinch me.

Add to this the terrible dread you have that the upcoming NFL season is going down in flames as the labor negotiations between the NFL players association and the owners rapidly disintegrates.

Lets review:
NO GF on V Day
No football on Sunday
No NFL in 2011'

Ok now I am depressed.

Fantasy Football Index magazine 2010 Expert QB Rankings and Overall Results

Congratulations to Pretzel May of FantasyDraftMaster.com the winner
of the 2010 Fantasy Football Index Experts Poll.
The contest involved 20 other analysts/Experts (including myself) and was one of the most wide-open polls in years with a different leader every day and every expert finished below-average in at least one category. What does this all mean? No one can be right all the time and most of us "Experts" are just trying to stay above the mean. More on that later.

Cory Bonini (KFFL) won quarterbacks, followed by Scott Sachs (Perfect Season
Fantasy Football) and Jeffrey Kamys (Dr. Stats Fantasy Sports).

Second place this year goes to Lance Ralls. He was selected by the magazine to participate.
Third place goes to Scott Pianowski (Yahoo! Sports). Scott is always one of the
top finishers in this competition. He always seems to be above average.

The top 11 finishers in this competition win spots in the Mock Draft
Competitions that is part of Fantasy Football Index magazine. Mays will get
first choice of where he wants to select in that draft (first, second, or
whatever). The final three spots in that league go to Kamys, Pappano and
David Dorey (The Huddle). Going into the last position rankings I was 10th but a 16th place finish in QBs sunk me to 16th overall too. My Tony Romo ranking of 4th hurt as his injury killed me. It did not help my case either with Matt Leinart at 16th (these were done in May folks!) and I was highest on Donovan McNabb (8th) then all others. No apologies, I will continue to go out on the limb since some of my other calls (Matt Forte 19th-only 2 others picked him in top 19; Benjamin Watson, TE 20th) are great!

FF Guidebook, FF Tips and FF Basics all recommend www.FootballGuys.com as one of the top pay sites for fantasy football.

I recommend http://www.footballguys.com/ in all of my fantasy football books as one of the top premium (pay) sites for rankings and start sit decisions. http://www.fantasypros.com/ recently announced its top five performers (weekly ranking accuracy) as part of the Fantasy Sports Trade Association (FSTA) conference. I am proud to see David Dodds of http://www.footballguys.com/ at #2 in the rankings.

Well done David!

Sam Hendricks, aka FFGuidebook.com, finishes 11th out of 20 Experts in Fantasy Football Index RB rankings, holds on to 10th overall

Thanks to my pick of Matt Forte as the 19th best RB (only 2 other Experts had him in the Top 20), I finished 11th in RBs despite being the highest on DeAngelo Williams (5th) whose injury crushed me in the standings.

With one position left to be graded, Pappano is the overall leader, 136
points ahead of Alan Satterlee (Dynasty Rogues) and 452 ahead of Scott
Pianowski (Yahoo Sports). Rosenthal is sitting in 4th.

The top 11 finishers in the poll win spots in the Mock Draft league that
will published in Fantasy Football Index magazine. Right now, Chris Liss of
Rotowire.com is holding that 11th and final spot. Just on the outside
looking in (needing a good showing in quarterbacks to move up) are David
Dorey (The Huddle), James Serra (First Place Sports Software), Bob Henry
(Footballguys.com) and others.

What is your preliminary Top 10 for the 2011 fantasy season?

What is your preliminary Top 10 for the 2011 fantasy season?

For rankings, assume 4-pt TD passes and non-PPR scoring; 1 point for every 10 rushing or receiving yards (and every 20 passing yards), 6 points for all rushing or receiving touchdowns

1 Michael Vick: If he plays all 16 games, a big if...
2 Arian Foster: #1 stays #1 until proven otherwise
3 Adrian Peterson: What's not to love and hate with AP
4 Chris Johnson: One of the games most gifted RBs
5 Jamaal Charles: KC will use him early and often...I hope
6 Maurice Jones Drew: Hope for the best, expect the worst
7 Peyton Hillis: Gutsy RB that even CLE cannot ruin
8 Michael Turner (Darren McFadden, LeSean McCoy, or Frank Gore could have gone here as well-injury concerns for all push them to the back)
9 Roddy White: Mr. Consistent at WR
10 Andre Johnson: Reggie Wayne could go here too

18 Week Season in 2012?

I hope the NFLPA and the owners come to agreement over the CBA soon. I have looked into my crystal ball and I believe we will have a 2011 season and it will be a 16 game/17 week season. But indications are that beyond 2011 it could well be a 18 game/20 week season with 2 less preseason games (Season starts 2 weeks early) and the playoffs extend right up until a week before the Super Bowl. Yes yes move the Pro Bowl back to obscurity after the SB.

What will a 18 game NFL season mean for Fantasy Football?

It will mean a 20 week season with 2 bye weeks for each team and 18 regular season games.

I expect bye weeks in weeks 4-10 and then repeated in weeks 11-17. Why? Because no team wants their bye week to be early. This years week 4 byes seemed too early and players complained. Could you see any team wanting their bye in week 1 or 2? No way.

Week 20 probably will be off limits for the same reasons we avoid week 17 Super Bowls now (apathy and players sitting to rest for playoffs).

So I expect a 19 week season for FF. The playoffs may be limited to weeks 18 and 19 due to bye week issues. So a 2 week playoff contest to include the Championship game.

14 team leagues can play a game against each other team (13 games) and perhaps have 4 weeks of ALL PLAY where each team plays every team that week. Optimally these all play games may start with week 1 and last for all of the Non-bye weeks-so start the season with ALL PLAY in weeks 1-3?

12 team leagues? Yikes

16 Team leagues-15 game regular seasons-each team plays all the other teams, playoffs in weeks 16-18 with everyone realizing that 2 of those weeks may have bye week teams so some strategic drafting may be introduced into FF drafts from now on. I.e late bye weeks become more important.

We will see...

Sam Hendricks and FFGuidebook.com finish 4th in Fantasy Football Index projections/rankings contest

Alan Satterlee of Dynasty Rogues is the winner of the Defense portion
of the Experts Poll that appeared in the last issue of Fantasy Football
Index magazine, Scott Sachs (Perfect Season Fantasy Football) finished in second, Michael Nazarek (Fantasy Football Mastermind) took third and Sam Hendricks (FFGuidebook.com) finished in fourth in the category.

Defenses were scored using the system of 6 points for TDs, and 2 points for
every sack, interception, fumble and safety. Touchdowns include scores on
returns of interceptions and opponents fumbles, as well as kickoffs, punts
and blocked kicks. Arizona scored 3 TDs that didn't count (2 offensive
fumble recoveries and a fake field goal by Jay Feely).

With two categories scored, David Dorey (The Huddle) is the current overall
leader, following by Nazarek and Sachs. The QB, RB and WR categories are
still to come.

FF Index also are scoring their own picks that appeared in the news-stand edition of
Fantasy Football Index. They haven't done well yet, finishing
below-average in defenses and next-to-last in kickers.

Fantasy Football Index Experts Poll-Kickers results from 2010

Congratulations are in order for Nathan Zegura of The Fantasy Consultant. He
is the winner in the Kickers Portion of the Fantasy Football Index Experts
Poll.

These are the scores from the picks published in the 2010 edition of Fantasy
Football Index. FF Index asked 20 different fantasy football analysts to rank
their top 20 at each position quarterbacks, running backs, wide receivers,
tight ends, kickers and defenses. Then they scored the selections, using a
complex grading system that awards points (in varying degrees) for every
selection. The higher you rate a player, the more he counts towards your
score.

Zegura is the winner. Two of the all-time leaders in the Experts Poll
competition, David Dorey (The Huddle) and Scott Pianowski (Yahoo Sports)
finished second and third.

The kicker position was more polluted than usual this year because of an
unusually high number of injuries and roster moves. Stephen Gostkowski, Matt
Prater and Jason Hanson all missed significant times. Garrett Hartley was
replaced for a while in New Orleans, Shayne Graham sat out the first half of
the season, and the Steelers gave up on Jeff Reed. So experts tending to
rank those guys highly tended to take a beating in the scoring system, which
grades every pick.

Nevertheless, Zegura was the clear winner, outscoring everyone by six
hundred points. There was almost as much difference between Zegura as the
rest of the field combined. Zegura's best picks were ranking David Akers 2nd
(Akers wasn't in the top 5 on most boards), and he was by far the highest on
Billy Cundiff (10th) who beat out Shayne Graham in Baltimore and went on to
have a Pro Bowl season.

A reminder on how the scoring works. If a kicker scored 100 NFL points (and
for kickers, NFL and fantasy points are the same they didn't do bonuses for
long field goals or penalties for missed kicks) than that would be his
³multiplier² or scoring number. If you ranked him first, that pick would be
worth 2,000 points 20 x 100. If you ranked him 2nd, that would be worth
1,900 points 19 x 100. Third would equal 1,800 points (18 x 100) and so
on.

When you score all 20 points by all 20 experts, Zegura comes out on top.

FF Index will score all of the categories separately over the next week. The
winner will be the expert with the most overall points (QB, RB, WR, TE, K
and DEF).

The Fantasy Football Index picks aren't part of this competition. FF Index host
and run the competition, but they have never been part of it themselves.
Nevertheless, they do score their choices to see how they do. Not well this time.
Their picks finished with 20,454 points, which would be next-to-last in this
group. In other words I would have beaten them. I am hoping for a better performance in the upcoming categories.
