Fantasy Football Index Experts Poll-Kickers results from 2010

Congratulations are in order for Nathan Zegura of The Fantasy Consultant. He
is the winner in the Kickers Portion of the Fantasy Football Index Experts
Poll.

These are the scores from the picks published in the 2010 edition of Fantasy
Football Index. FF Index asked 20 different fantasy football analysts to rank
their top 20 at each position quarterbacks, running backs, wide receivers,
tight ends, kickers and defenses. Then they scored the selections, using a
complex grading system that awards points (in varying degrees) for every
selection. The higher you rate a player, the more he counts towards your
score.

Zegura is the winner. Two of the all-time leaders in the Experts Poll
competition, David Dorey (The Huddle) and Scott Pianowski (Yahoo Sports)
finished second and third.

The kicker position was more polluted than usual this year because of an
unusually high number of injuries and roster moves. Stephen Gostkowski, Matt
Prater and Jason Hanson all missed significant times. Garrett Hartley was
replaced for a while in New Orleans, Shayne Graham sat out the first half of
the season, and the Steelers gave up on Jeff Reed. So experts tending to
rank those guys highly tended to take a beating in the scoring system, which
grades every pick.

Nevertheless, Zegura was the clear winner, outscoring everyone by six
hundred points. There was almost as much difference between Zegura as the
rest of the field combined. Zegura's best picks were ranking David Akers 2nd
(Akers wasn't in the top 5 on most boards), and he was by far the highest on
Billy Cundiff (10th) who beat out Shayne Graham in Baltimore and went on to
have a Pro Bowl season.

A reminder on how the scoring works. If a kicker scored 100 NFL points (and
for kickers, NFL and fantasy points are the same they didn't do bonuses for
long field goals or penalties for missed kicks) than that would be his
³multiplier² or scoring number. If you ranked him first, that pick would be
worth 2,000 points 20 x 100. If you ranked him 2nd, that would be worth
1,900 points 19 x 100. Third would equal 1,800 points (18 x 100) and so
on.

When you score all 20 points by all 20 experts, Zegura comes out on top.

FF Index will score all of the categories separately over the next week. The
winner will be the expert with the most overall points (QB, RB, WR, TE, K
and DEF).

The Fantasy Football Index picks aren't part of this competition. FF Index host
and run the competition, but they have never been part of it themselves.
Nevertheless, they do score their choices to see how they do. Not well this time.
Their picks finished with 20,454 points, which would be next-to-last in this
group. In other words I would have beaten them. I am hoping for a better performance in the upcoming categories.
