Why is Hines Ward on Monday Night Football?

Ok, I admit I do not get it. Twice now I have seen Hines Ward (retired Pittsburgh WR hero) appear on MNF at half time with Bob Costas. Bob asks Hines one question. He answers and smiles and then they go to commercial and Ward is never seen or heard from again for a week. Why isn't he in the studio with Tony Dungy? What about in the booth with Chris Collinsworth or Al Michaels? Is Ward not wanted in either venue?
I just do not get it. He needs to work on his booth presence but throwing him in at halftime on MNF as an afterthought seems harsh to me. It just is not right.
