On January 26, the FSWA presented its annual writing awards. Same as last year, RotoWire
(http://www.rotowire.com/) came away as the big winner with six awards, including Best Baseball Print Publication, Best Football Article on the Web by Derek VanRiper, Basketball Writer of the year (Andre Snellings) and Racing Writer of the Year (Mark Taylor).
RotoWire baseball writer David Regan won for Best Baseball Series and Best Baseball Article on the Web. Regan said, “It's humbling to even be nominated alongside this great group of writers, and to win a pair of awards is just gravy. I'd like to thank my editors at RotoWire (including Jeff Erickson and Jason Thornbury), as well as a great group of writers too numerous to list here, but many of which I've learned a great deal from over the years."
As for the unprecedented success of RotoWire (which has won 12 awards over the past two years), RotoWire President Peter Schoenke said, “It's pretty amazing to have as many nominations and wins as we did with the large number and quality of entries this year.”
The hotly contested Writer of the Year awards went to KFFL’s Ryan Bonini for Football, Scott White of CBSSports.com for Baseball, Yahoo!’s Scott Pianowski for Golf, ESPN’s Sean Allen for Hockey, and Brad Evans of Yahoo! for College Sports. Allen, who won for the second straight year thanked ESPN for their support of fantasy hockey and praised his fellow nominees Rocky Bonanno of NHL.com and Pianowski for raising the bar of fantasy hockey writing. White was honored to win, especially with the quality of writers who had won in the past, including RotoWire’s Jeff Erickson who had won the award in 2008 and 2009.
