FootballGuys Players Championship growing fast!

Looking for a great fantasy football contest with a medium size entry fee. Look no more. Last year the FPC had over 1,600 players. They now have over 1,725 players FOR 2011 (at last check) and a $125,000 Grand Prize. If they hit 1800 they will up the Prizes again. The championship round now pays out to the first 160 spots. 2nd place is $20,000, 3rd place $10,000 4th place is $7,500 and so on until 15th which is $1,000 and they keep paying $1,000 until 55th!!!!!!!

    Format
    FPC is comprised of 12 team leagues with 20 roster spots.

    Draft format is classic serpentine: 1-12, 12-1, 1-12, etc.


    Regular season is Weeks 1-11.
              League Playoffs are Weeks 12 & 13.

              Championship Round and Consolation Round are Weeks 14-16.


    League Playoffs: At the end of the regular season, the two top seeds from each league each earn an automatic berth into the Championship Round, regardless of how they perform in the League Playoffs. The four top seeds (including the two above) from each league will compete in the 2-week, head-to-head League Playoff in Weeks 12 & 13. The winners of the Week 12 match-ups will play each other in Week 13 for the League Championship. The League Champion and runner up will win cash awards as described in the prize structure.
    Championship Round: In addition to the cash awards, each League Champion will win a berth in the Championship Round, if they have not already secured an automatic berth after the regular season. In other words, if Seed 3 or Seed 4 wins the League Championship, that team will also move on to the Championship Round along with Seeds 1 & 2. A minimum of two and a maximum of three teams per league will qualify for the Championship Round. Any League Playoff team which did not qualify into the Championship Round will enter the Consolation Round. In addition, any team which did not qualify for the League Playoffs but finished in the top 20% of the FPC Overall Leaderboard at the conclusion of Week 11 will qualify for the Consolation Round (i.e. based on 1200 teams, the top 240 teams are considered as the top 20%). All teams which did not qualify for the League Playoffs will enter the Toilet Bowl in Weeks 12-16.
    Free Agents: The Free Agent process is via blind bidding. Each team will be given 1000 blind bidding "dollars".

    Roster/Scoring: The FPC starting lineup allows for two (2) flex positions, also known as the Dual-Flex. The scoring system gives 1 point per reception for RBs & WRs but also gives 1.5 points per reception for TEs, putting extra weight to the TE position. Action scoring is implemented for all TDs: any TD scored by a player is scored as 6 points to that individual player, in addition to any D/ST scoring that may apply. Stat errors will be automatically corrected using Elias Sports Bureau. The deadline for lineup submission for each player via web site or email is the scheduled start time of the game in which the player is participating.

    Starting Roster: 1 QB, 2 RBs, 2 WRs, 1 TE, 2 flex players (RB/WR/TE), 1 K, 1 D/ST



    Scoring system
    -4 points for passing TDs, 6 points for all other TDs
    -0.05 point for every 1 yard passing
    -0.1 point for every 1 yard rushing or receiving
    -1.0 point per reception for RBs and WRs
    -1.5 points per reception for TEs
    -3 points for every FG of 1 - 30 yards plus 0.1 point for every yard thereafter
    -1 point for D/ST sack, 2 points for all turnovers
    -6 points for all D/ST touchdowns
    -5 points for every safety
    -12 points for every shutout
    -8 points for allowing between 1 - 6 points
    -5 points for allowing between 7 - 10 points

    Fantasy Football Players Championship (FFPC)-Time running out to join! 620 Already in.

    Many may recall that Dave Gerczak, the 2008 NFFC $100,000 Champion and co-owner of FFPC, penned the forward for Fantasy Football Tips. Well I am excited to pass on the great news that Dave and Alex (Alex Kaganovsky-a great FF player in his own right) have announced a $200,000 Main Event Grand Prize for the Fantasy Football Players Championship. You heard me right. They are doubling (from $100,000 in 2008-2010) the prize for the Champion to $200,000. And if they hit their expected number of 660 teams they may increase those prizes.

    Not only that but league prizes have increased too! From $8,500 last year to $10,000 in 2011.

    And an additional $15,000+ more money is added to the Championship round 2nd thru 15th spots. I finished in 7th place overall in 2008 and 15th overall in 2009.

    The cost to play the Main Event is $1,550. But do not wait too long. Final draft spots are announced Friday 2 September. A few guaranteed spots in each of the 6 main event drafts remain. If you want to play in what I consider one of, if not the best, High Stakes League competitions, then sign up now!

    If you not ready for High Stakes Fantasy Football (and many are not) why not try a $77 or $150 or $250 FFPC Satellite League. These 12 team (and new for 2012 some 14 team leagues) allow you to try the FFPC format (two flex players, TE get 1.5 PPR, TDs for KO and P RRTN TDs to players).

    I like the way the FFPC pays out quickly (before 31 Dec of the year you win!) and keeps the money for the Main Event prizes in an escrow account.

    NFFC satellitte draft results

    Here is my team from the 28 Aug 1 PM EST NFFC 14 team $125 Pay Top 3 draft. I do not like my team so much. In the NFFC, there is third round reversal (3RR). I had the 3rd pick, but with 3RR that meant the 12th pick in the 2nd and 3rd rounds. The draft snakes after that.

    Positives: Strong at RB (too strong perhaps and this means WR is weak) and TE. Good at QB

    Negatives: Weak at WR. No clear WR3 although lots of possibilities but many are rookies or wannabes.

    Regrets: I wanted either McNabb or Cam Newton and blew it. Waited too long on my handcuffs of Montario Hardesty (CLE RB), Toby Gerhart (MIN RB) and sleepers Antonio Brown (PIT WR) and Nate Burleson (DET WR).

    National Fantasy Football Championship (NFFC) time is running out to join this great fantasy football experience!

    As mentioned in both Fantasy Football Guidebook and Fantasy Football Tips I highly recommend the National Fantasy Football Championship (NFFC) or one of its low cost satellite leagues. In 2011 the NFFC is teamed up with STATS.

    The NFFC (http://nffc.stats.com/football/home/nffc/index.asp) has been around since 2004 and continues to provide great customer service, quick payouts and some great FF innovations. I love the fact that they use third round reversal (3RR) and the Kentucky derby system (KDS) to eliminate the draft spot bias (which I truly believe gives the 1st pick as much as a 5% advantage over the last pick in other traditional serpentine drafts).

    The NFFC offers two high stakes leagues:

    1) The Classic: a 14-team league with a $1400 entry and offering a $100,000 Grand Prize and $8,750 in league prizes.
    and
    2) The Primetime: a 12-team league with a $1400 entry and offering a $100,000 Grand Prize and $8,200 n league prizes.

    Another difference maker is the NFFC offers live drafts on Saturday 3 September in Las Vegas, Chicago and New York and the Primetime expands that to Saturday 10 September in all three locations (And Friday 9 Sep in Las Vegas). Online drafts are offered on multiple days too!

    The NFFC also offers some low and mid priced contests as well. Satellite leagues start at $125 and go to $1000. They also have both 12 and 14 team $60 draft master leagues.

    Lots to choose and from two great FF gentlemen in Greg Ambrosius and Tom Kessenich.

    Sunday night I drafted in a $125 14 Team NFFC satellite draft. The draft room (with back end support from STATS) was good and the draft went off without a problem. Other than my goofiness at missing my handcuff for Adrian Peterson. The 14 team drafts really are different. Different ADP, more players taken and a different mentality with QBs worth more (6 pts per passing TD), WRs worth more (start 3 WRs) and RBs less (Start 2 but .5 point per reception). Try it you will like it.

    Looks like the classic will be 20 leagues (280 teams) and the prime time is at 283 teams and shooting for 336.

    There are still a few days left to sign up. Time is definitely running out!

    Mark Ingram, currently being drafted at RB15. I never draft a rookie RB any higher than 20th. They are always hyped by ESPN and the NFL Network, but the fact remains if they cannot pick up the pass blitzer, the coach will sit them on third down for the veteran who can protect his QB. Most start strong, but wear down as the long (20 game) season winds down. Save yourself the headache and avoid Ingram that high.

    NFL and Fantasy Football Player updates

    -Should you move Ray Rice up your draft board, talk is out of him getting lots of GL carries. I am not buying it. Ricky Williams will vulture some of those. Sure Rice has lost Le Ron Mcclain as FB but he gained Vonta Leach perhaps the best FB in the NFL (bet Arian Foster will miss him). I like Rice 3rd or 4th (behind JC and AP) in a PPR league

    -Chris Johnson is still holding out with no contract in sight. Drop CJ to 8th or 9th and hope for a quick settlement. If you avoid him until the 2nd round it will not be uncalled for as holdouts have a tendency to get hurt once they come back to contact with 300lb defensive players.

    -Sleepers on the move:
    1) Denarius Moore OAK WR (rookie) There may not be anyone else to catch balls on day one in OAK. Injuries are piling up there and this rook has impressed.
    2) Andre Roberts AZ WR Seems to be the Steve Breaston replacement
    3) Johnny Knox CHI WR Rumors of his death (demotion for Roy Williams) may have been premature. May be the man again in Chicago
    4) Greg Olsen CAR TE With a inexperienced QB (take your pick which one) it will mean more check downs and Olsen has the skill set and is young enough (opposed to J Shockey) to make some noise
    5) Colt McCoy QB CLE What is not to like. The Browns will be behind all season long. Lots of passes and FF points.

    Fantasy Football updates

    Chance to play me in NFFC satellite league-Aug 28 1 PM EST (14 teams need 5 more)

    Want a chance to play against the author of Fantasy Football Guidebook?


    Well you can play in the Fantasy Football Players Championship (FFPC) Main Event and you will kind of play me but not necessarily in the same league. There are over 550 signed up so the odds are stacked against you. I have not decided on the Main Event at the National Fantasy Football Championship (NFFC) yet, but those chances of being in the same league are long too.

    I am in a NFFC 14-team league that is drafting online Sunday at 1 PM EST.
    It is a NFFC satellite league that has a $125 entry fee and pays out to the top 3 finishers ($800, $250 and $125) plus an additional $125 to the overall H2H champ and total points champion after weeks 1-13. That is $1425 in prizes versus $1750 in entrance fees ($125 of which are yours). So a payout ratio (I am big on the payout ratio) of 81.4%. Pretty good for a low entry fee.

    I like the NFFC because it offers third round reversal (3RR) and the Kentucky Derby System (KDS) for draft spot choices. 3RR reverses the 3rd round of the draft to help even out the field for the later draft spots. So instead of going 1-14 it goes 14-1 just like the second round did. That is great! In my opinion an equalizer (okay close to it) for having a late draft spot. KDS lets you put in order the draft spots you want. For example, I put down 3,4,5,6,7,8,1,2,9,10,11,12,13,14 on one occasion because I did not like the top 2 players going in most drafts and decided I would gladly take the 3rd or 4th on my list while gaining a better 2nd and 3rd round spot (as opposed to drafting last in those rounds with 3RR). But I digress...

    Anyway I and 8 others when last I looked are going to draft on Sunday 28 August at 1 PM EST in this Top 3 14 team league.

    Local league draft results from Saturday

    It is a 14 team, 20 man roster, PPR, start 1 QB 2 RB 2WR 1TE 1K 1DEF+1 flex, minimal keeper league.
    Owners can keep a maximum of up to 2 players and only if they were drafted in the 9th round or later and held the entire year. A 4 round penalty from where you drafted them is the cost to keep. I kept Chris Johnson in the 3rd who I drafted in the 15th round in 2008.

    I had the 13th pick. But because I kept to stud RBs (thanks to great drafting in previous years) I could go WR-WR-QB to start and pick up Roddy White, Calvin Johnson and Drew Brees.

    Note you are limited ton only 3 RBs and 3 WRs with first 14 picks in this league.

    NFL/fantasyfootball updates after Saturdays games

    -SEA releases K Brian Coutu so looks like Jeff Reed wins that job.
    -For those who have not heard Ryan Williams RB AZ is probably out for the season with another knee injury, move Chris "beanie" Wells up to RB25, and add LaRod Stephens-Howling as his handcuff
    -Peyton Manning is out for the preseason. Watch this closely. I am not worried yet but PM drops to #7 in my elite QB rankings now behind Tony Romo
    -Michael Crabtree WR SF may not be able to start week 1
    -Austin Collie has knee problems
    -Jason Campbell QB OAK left game with dizziness after hit to helmet (concussion?)
    -Jahvid Best RB DET left game a little woozy in 1st qtr
    -Kenny Britt WR TEN has some injury issues, questions if he can start week 1
    -Brandon Jackson RB CLE has turf toe
    -Jonathan Baldwin WR KC has wrist or hand injury after fight with teammate Thomas Jones, Baldwin is likely out for Pre season. Move Steve Breaston up a little.

    Fantasy Football updates on players and events

    I played in my local league today and play in a local NFFC Auction league Sunday.

    Fantasy Football Players Championship announce Main Event draft spots for teams that registered early

    Lets just cut to the chase. I got the 8th pick in my league. I do not know who is in my league or what the "name" of my league is yet. NOTE: The FFPC has in the past given each league its own name but with currently 500+ teams (over 40 leagues) they may be getting too big for that this year. I hope not!

    I can live with that. But geez I had a 50/50 chance of 1-6 why do I always end up at the back of the draft. Sure I have done well (2 top 15 overall finishes in the Championship) but I think my "luck " so far (if you can call it that) as far as draft spots in the 4 main events is abyssal. I seem to remember a 11th, 12th, 9th and now an 8th. Getting better I guess.
    I like that spot though for playing the back end "round the corner" and I should have one of my top 6 RBs or top 3 WRs in the first round. In fact, someone usually falls a little out of the top 5 and you can take them at 8th.

    Fantasy Players Association asks: "Is the WCOFF broke?"

    The World Championship of Fantasy Football (WCOFF) announced their early draft spots on 15 Aug.
    Only 181 teams were shown and many of these may have been from "rollover" money from 2010 winners who have been "strong armed" into playing again.

    WCOFF has not paid their 2010 winners in full and the FPA is aware of over $600,000 in unpaid winners from 2010 and the World Championship of Fantasy Baseball (WCOFB) will have prize money due for 2011 as well.

    The FPA went on to say that the provider of league management services (known as a back end software provider) RTSports has stated they have no contract with WCOFF for 2011. Satellite leagues were not available for signups today.

    Although I played in WCOFF in 2006 and 2007 and recommended them in my books Fantasy Football Guidebook, Fantasy Football Tips and Fantasy Football Basics, I do not recommend playing them in 2011.
    I suggest you wait and see if they can recover and somehow pay their 2010 winners before considering playing there again.

    Fantasy Football Index Magazine Experts Auction Draft

    Drafted in the Fantasy Index Experts Auction draft Monday night. Tough competition with the likes of Ian Allan (Fantasy Index Magazine editor, David Dodds, Christopher Harris and many other big names in the fantasy football world.

    I will show my team after the electronic magazine comes out next week but I will say the buzz about Mike Vick has died down some and Chris Johnsons holdout and MJDs injury have others worried. Not me for the right price though.

    Tim Hightower looks like he is asserting himself as the #1 RB in WAS for now and his auction price reflected this.

    Fred Davis TE WAS went for more than Chris Cooley so be afraid be very afraid.

    Likewise Jeremy Maclin value has dropped tremendously with his mysterious illness.

    Lee Evans to Ravens

    I like this move for Baltimore. They were hurting at WR with Torrey Smith (rookie) projected at #1 with Anquan Boldin as the mentor at #2. Now Lee Evans can be the deep threat and Boldin can show Smith how to do it over the middle. Big upgrade for BAL and Flacco and a loss for Buffalo.
    Now it looks as if Steve Johnson will have just Roscoe Parrish (injured) and David Nelson as receiving buddies.

    Bump Evans, Boldin and Flacco in your rankings, lower Torrey Smith if you had him too high as #1.
    Steve Johnson may take a small hit.

    FootballGuys Players Championship (FPC) increases Grand Prize to $100,000. This mid size entry fee league is growing!

    Format
    FPC is comprised of 12 team leagues with 20 roster spots.

    Draft format is classic serpentine: 1-12, 12-1, 1-12, etc.


    Regular season is Weeks 1-11.
              League Playoffs are Weeks 12 & 13.

              Championship Round and Consolation Round are Weeks 14-16.


    League Playoffs: At the end of the regular season, the two top seeds from each league each earn an automatic berth into the Championship Round, regardless of how they perform in the League Playoffs. The four top seeds (including the two above) from each league will compete in the 2-week, head-to-head League Playoff in Weeks 12 & 13. The winners of the Week 12 match-ups will play each other in Week 13 for the League Championship. The League Champion and runner up will win cash awards as described in the prize structure.
    Championship Round: In addition to the cash awards, each League Champion will win a berth in the Championship Round, if they have not already secured an automatic berth after the regular season. In other words, if Seed 3 or Seed 4 wins the League Championship, that team will also move on to the Championship Round along with Seeds 1 & 2. A minimum of two and a maximum of three teams per league will qualify for the Championship Round. Any League Playoff team which did not qualify into the Championship Round will enter the Consolation Round. In addition, any team which did not qualify for the League Playoffs but finished in the top 20% of the FPC Overall Leaderboard at the conclusion of Week 11 will qualify for the Consolation Round (i.e. based on 1200 teams, the top 240 teams are considered as the top 20%). All teams which did not qualify for the League Playoffs will enter the Toilet Bowl in Weeks 12-16.
    Free Agents: The Free Agent process is via blind bidding. Each team will be given 1000 blind bidding "dollars".

    Roster/Scoring: The FPC starting lineup allows for two (2) flex positions, also known as the Dual-Flex. The scoring system gives 1 point per reception for RBs & WRs but also gives 1.5 points per reception for TEs, putting extra weight to the TE position. Action scoring is implemented for all TDs: any TD scored by a player is scored as 6 points to that individual player, in addition to any D/ST scoring that may apply. Stat errors will be automatically corrected using Elias Sports Bureau. The deadline for lineup submission for each player via web site or email is the scheduled start time of the game in which the player is participating.

    Starting Roster: 1 QB, 2 RBs, 2 WRs, 1 TE, 2 flex players (RB/WR/TE), 1 K, 1 D/ST



    Scoring system
    -4 points for passing TDs, 6 points for all other TDs
    -0.05 point for every 1 yard passing
    -0.1 point for every 1 yard rushing or receiving
    -1.0 point per reception for RBs and WRs
    -1.5 points per reception for TEs
    -3 points for every FG of 1 - 30 yards plus 0.1 point for every yard thereafter
    -1 point for D/ST sack, 2 points for all turnovers
    -6 points for all D/ST touchdowns
    -5 points for every safety
    -12 points for every shutout
    -8 points for allowing between 1 - 6 points
    -5 points for allowing between 7 - 10 points

    NFL and Fantasy Football developments in the past 24 hours

    Steve Smith (formerly WR NYG) has signed with the Eagles. He is not going to be ready to play until week 4 (some say week 6) at the earliest and probably more likely week 8 since PHI has the week 7 bye.

    Chris Johnson, RB TEN continues to holdout. This is worrying as holdouts tend to be higher injury risks. But in the case of CJ I am prepared to give him some room based simply on his amazing agility on the field. Lets hope this is settled soon.

    The World Championship of Fantasy Football (WCOFF) has still not paid all of its 2010 winners and it looks as if a hoped for buyout by some well known FF people has fallen through. I sincerely hope everyone owed money is paid in full but time is running out for a happy ending here.

    National Fantasy Football Championship offers great opportunites

    As mentioned in both Fantasy Football Guidebook and Fantasy Football Tips I highly recommend the National Fantasy Football Championship (NFFC) or one of its low cost satellite leagues. In 2011 the NFFC is teamed up with STATS while ownership has been transferred from FANBALL.

    The NFFC (http://nffc.stats.com/football/home/nffc/index.asp) has been around since 2004 and continues to provide great customer service, quick payouts and some great FF innovations. I love the fact that they use third round reversal (3RR) and the Kentucky derby system (KDS) to eliminate the draft spot bias which I truly believe gives the 1st pick as much as a 5% advantage over the last pick.

    The NFFC offers two high stakes leagues:

    1) The Classic a 14-team league with a $1400 entry and offering a $100,000 Grand Prize and $8,750 in league prizes.
    and
    2) The Primetime a 12-team league with a $1400 entry and offering a $100,000 Grand Prize and $8,200 n league prizes.

    Another difference maker is the NFFC offers live drafts on Saturday 3 September in Las Vegas, Chicago and New York and the Primetime expands that to Saturday 10 September in all three locations (And Friday 9 Sep in Las Vegas). Online drafts are offered on multiple days too!

    The NFFC also offers some low and mid priced contests as well. Satellite leagues start at $125 and go to $1000. They also have both 12 and 14 team $60 draft master leagues.

    Lots to choose and from two great FF gentlemen in Greg Ambrosius and Tom Kessenich.

    Mikel LeShoure, DET RB, who was expected to be the goalline vulture and save some wear and tear on Jahvid Best, is out for the season with a torn achilles tendon.

    Visanthe Shiancoe, TE MIN has a hamstring injury.

    In High Stakes League news, the Fantasy Football Players Championship (FFPC) has over 455 teams registered for their Main Event which offers a $200,000 Grand Prize.

    The FootballGuys.com Players Championship FPC) which costs $350 to enter and offers a $75,000 Grand Prize has over 600 entries.

    Where to go to have your fantasy football draft

    Both offer some incentives to get you in their door to have your draft and both offer lots to see once you are there. (I am talking about their big screen TVs...)

    BWW currently is offering $100 worth of food, a draft kit and free Wi-Fi if you draft there. Note you must have 8 or more teams present and the food comes in gift certificates for future visits. Still not bad an offer.

    Hooters is offering a free draft kit (available 8 Aug) and free Wi-Fi (most locations) if you go there. The kit has a hat, can cooler, draft board and more.

    Either place is a winner in my book.

    Jeremy Shockey-CAR (See Olsen comments above, Shockey has some wear and tear on him)
    Todd Heap-AZ (Kolb safety valve, but I don't call him Todd "Probable" Heap for nothing)
    Daniel Graham-TEN (No worries for Jared Cook owners, Graham is known as a blocker)
    Donald Lee-PHI (Same here for Celek owners, Lee is past his prime catching balls, look for him to block primarily)
    Kevin Boss-OAK (Great move for Boss as OAK and J. Campbell like the TE option, dont think OAK upgraded here as they lost Zach Miller a sure thing for the competent but unproven long term Boss. Good upside on Boss though but dont drft him too high)
    Bo Scaife-CIN (think blocker not catcher although with Dalton as QB...can anyone say dump off target)

    QB Free Agency examined so far.


    Hang on to your hats it has been a wild few days in the short 2011 NFL Season. Free agency has been accelerated and actions that normally might take weeks or months occurred in the past 5 days.

    Here is a quick synopsis for QBs and the possible FF effects

    Kevin Kolb-Az (Upgrade Kolb and all AZ WRs especially Larry Fitz)
    Donovan McNabb-MIN (I like McNabb as comeback player of the year with a big chip on his shoudler)
    Matt Hasselbeck-TEN (With Chris Johnson to catch passes what is not to like, maybe Kenny Britt's attitude? 3 yr deal says something)
