How to do a Live Draft and have Players Online at same time?

Let's say you have a local league that has been around for a long time. 20+ years and you always have a live draft for it but some of the owners have moved far away and cannot attend.



How do you include them?


In the past I have had them call (but it is a long distance call for some) or Skype (but that is problematic sometimes due to connection issues and seeing the big draft board and hearing picks called out).



I can host the entire draft online but....that limits the live players to be stuck behind a computer versus placing stickers on a big draft board. I need something that combines the two (live vs online) and allows me as the commissioner to pause the draft and put keepers in ahead of time.



This year we are going to use www.FantasyFootballCalculator.com
(Note: I am not getting any compensation from them for this blog-although it would be nice :)).


The FFC offers a great hosted draft option (Free except one person-the commissioner needs to have a Commish membership (Regularly $39.99 currently $29.99). The other owners can get a free "Basic" membership and then can log onto a hosted draft from the commish.


That is what I am doing this year. So I will be the Commish and "Host" a online draft and invite everyone. However, the live draft participants do not have to be logged in-I will make their picks as the commish. I can pause the draft and override picks if needed as the commish. FFC also allows keeper picks. The support staff as FFC have been very cooperative.


The draft is Saturday Aug 23rd. I'll let you know how it works!


Another alternative is FanDraft software which allows the draft to be televised on a TV screen. Imagine no more draft board but instead the entire draft on a huge HD TV. The draft can be paused (which I what I really need as opposed to a YAHOO or ESPN hosted draft) and you can have owners not present join through remote access. Something to think about for next year! (Again Note: I have not received any compensation from FanDraft. I just researched products that would allow me to pause a online draft and allow owners to access the draft remotely. Both www.FantasyFootballCalculator.com and www.FanDraft.com allow me the flexibility to do this.
