Super Bowl Prediction AZ 34 PIT 30
AZ is behind most of the game but a late 4th quarter FG by Neil Rackers gives AZ the lead and then their Defense stiffens and refuses to let Big Ben and the PIT offense score their needed TD.

What is your preliminary top 12 for the 2009 season?
What is your preliminary top 12 for the 2009 season?
Assuming a 12 team league, start 2 RBs and 3 WRs, 4 pts per Pass TD, 6 Rush TD, 1 pt per 10 rushing/rec yds, 1 pt per 20 Passing yards, 1 PPR.
1. Matt Forte- He is Da Bears #1 resource, but his rank will be lower in a non-PPR league.
2. Adrian Peterson- Based on a 2009 with no injuries (fingers crossed).
3. Brian Westbrook- If McNabb is back, Westbrook excels for one more year.
4. Michael Turner - "Burner" Turner will only get better but may face a tougher schedule.
5. Marion Barber- Could be higher but hs bruising running style presents more of a chance for injuries.
6. M. Jones-Drew- Top 3 in 2008; the ony question will be if he can handle full RB duties.
7. Andre Johnson- The best WR and imagine if Schaub would stay healthy.
8. L Tomlinson- The question is if LT will be at SD. Sproles looks mighty good right now.
9. De Williams- RBBC with Jonathan Stewart lowers his rank a bit.
10. L. Fitzgerald- Perhaps the best WR but loses some stats when there are two other 1000 yard WRs on the team (Boldin, Breaston).
11. Brandon Marshall- Imagine what he can do with a full season and no distractions; surely the new HC will not waste this asset.
12. Drew Brees- 5000 yards and such consistency. I see nothing to slow his passing stats down. Heck maybe Shockey will catch a TD pass in 2009.
Honorable Mention: Steven Jackson.

Who was the fantasy MVP?
I nominate Matt Forte and Tony Gonzalez as Fantasy Co-MVPs. Both far exceeded their ADP and provided their owners with a great chance at a championship. Tony G finished the last 10 games of the season with a 7.5/90/1 average per game (on his way to 96/1058/10 TDs). Take a good look because he was Mr. Consistency (only 1 multiple TD game, instead he produced 9 games with TDs)-talk about money in the bank! Matt Forte delivered consistently as well. 13.5 fantasy points in PPR leagues was his lowest score this season. For the year, the rookie had 1238 yards rushing and 8 TDs, but more importantly he caught 63 passes for 477 yards and 4 TDs. Neither were drafted higher than the 4th round in most leagues yet they performed like first round studs.

2009 QB Rankings and Explanations
2009 QB Rankings
These Rankings are based on 4 points per passing TD, 6 points per rushing TD (# not shown here), 1 point per 25 yards passing. One point is subtracted for every interception thrown. Be sure to visit http://www.ffguidebook.com/ for more updates all offseason or to look at the QBs 2009 projections.
1 D Brees NO - Duh! 5000 yards passing in 08'
2 P. Manning IND -Always a Top 3 QB
3 T Romo DAL - Recovers from 08' injuries
4 A Rodgers GB - Have you seen his 08' stats? 4000 yds and 28 TDs
5 J Cutler DEN - New coach, tons of weaposn
6 M Cassel/ Brady NE - Hedging my bets with who will start
7 P Rivers SD -More LT = Less Passing TDs
8 K Warner/Leinart AZ - 3 x 1000 yd WRs...need I say more
9 S Hill SF -Sleeper-if he starts, great finish in 08'
10 D McNabb PHI -Slowly regressing but still good
11 T Thigpen KC -08’ darling gets better, question is does Tony Gonzlaez stay at TE
12 C Palmer CIN -Check health status in offseason, huge risk/reward here
13 C Pennington MIA -Steady wins the race.
14 M Schaub* HOU -Injury concerns make me rank him lower based on just a 14 game season, if he starts all 16-IF IF IF....move him up to Top 10.
15 D Garrard JAX -Steady but needs the Jags running game to gel, or better yet the OL
16 B Roethlisberger PIT -Healthy RBs mean less passes and Ward is a year older.
17 T Jackson MIN -If he starts and stays he could be a big sleeper, but I have been burnt on the M Vicks and V Youngs too much in the past, so not so quick this time to declare him King.
18 M Hasslebach SEA -New coach Mora wants to run more, if healthy could be worth the chance
19 Eli Manning NYG -200 yards per game average is nothing to brag about FF wise
20 Matt Ryan ATL- Everything flows through Michael "burner" Turner
21 J Delhomme CAR -Too many health concerns and a playoff collapse in 08'
22 Favre/Clemmons NYJ -whoever starts expect lots of INTs
23 K Orton CHI - CHI Offense is an oxymoron; Matt Forte is the star
24 J Campbell WAS -Which new Off scheme will he have to learn this year?
25 Joe Flacco BAL - Steady improvement but nothing to get excited about
26 Ja Russell OAK -Oakland, need I say more
27 M Bulger STL -Health concerns and a new coach, Holt lost a step too
28 Brady Quinn CLE -Deep sleeper
29 T Edwards BUF -Not consistent
30 J Kitna/Orlosky DET -QB controversy, 0-16 in 08'
31 J Garcia TB -New coach, time is running out
32 K Collins TEN -Running backs TEN has, WRs no
33 S Rosenfels HOU -Great insurance for Schaub
34 V Young TEN -Check mental state, but potential is there, see T Jax above.

How do you see the remainder of the postseason playing out?
PIT vs. BAL will be a great game as two tough defenses face off. To quote Yogi Berra, "It's like déjà vu all over again" as a rookie QB advances to the AFC Championship game. And just like Roethlisberger in 2004, Flacco will lose. PHI should win at AZ as McNabb makes a last attempt at a Super Bowl ring; that’s right a Pennsylvania Super Bowl, PIT vs. PHI. And the winner is……………… the Eagles with McNabb and Westbrook sharing MVP honors in the 43rd Super Bowl, denying Pittsburgh a 6th ring and joining the Phillies as world champions in the same year.

Carson Palmer pick as #3 QB erases chance at Fantasy Football Index magazine 2008 Experts Ranking title for Sam Hendricks
Roland Wood and the guys at Dynasty Rogues are the winners of the 18th
annual Experts Poll hosted by Fantasy Football Index magazine. Wood
outscored the other 19 experts in the quarterbacks competition, and that
allowed him to sneak past a handful of other contenders and win this year¹s
competition.
With Carson Palmer as the #3 QB in my rankings I knew things looked bleak heading into the final round of Fantasy Football Index magazines 2008 Experts Ranking title. These rankings were submitted in May of 2008 by 20 Experts and Fantasy Football Index magazine itself. I finished 7th in Defenses and 2nd in Kickers. TEs were a disappointment as I dropped to 6th overall after they were graded. WRs and RBs dropped us slightly in the overall standings but Carson Palmer (along with T. Brady at #1) sank us at QB and denied us a spot in the Fantasy Football Index 2009 Experts League. Look for my picks again this year and I promise a top finish in 2009.
In this competition, which dates back to 1991, every pick is scored in varying
degrees. The higher you rank a player, the more points he scores for you in
the poll so the experts are graded on essentially all of the significant
players. Drew Brees, for example, was the highest scoring quarter back in
this scoring format, scoring 389 points. If you ranked Brees No. 1 on your
board, that would be worth 7787 points 20 multiplied by 389. If you ranked
Brees 5th, you would get 5840 points (15 x 389). If you had Brees 19th, you
would have gotten 779 points (2 x 389).
The top 11 finishers in this poll earn spots in the magazine's 2009 Experts
League, which will be published in the upcoming edition of the magazine. And
draft order in that league is determined by the order of finish in this
competition. There¹s also a 12th spot in that league that goes to a Fantasy Football Index subscriber.
Wood compiled a solid overall card to win the competition. He fared poorly
in kickers (17th) and below-average in wide receivers (14th), but he was
very good in all of the other categories 1st in defenses, 2nd in running
backs and 3rd in tight ends.
And his win at quarterback allowed him to win the whole deal. Former
champion Scott Pianowski (Yahoo!) finished 2nd, and perennial contender
Michael Nazarek (Fantasy Football Mastermind) took 3rd. Look for my predictions, projections and rankings in Fantasy Football Almanac 2009 available on May 1 in online retailers such as amazon.com, BN.com and at my website www.FFGuidebook.com

Fantasy Football Guidebook holds 6th place overall in Fantasy Football Index magazines 2008 Expert Rankings after TEs
Tommy Stephens of FANTASY FOOTBALL EDGE is the winner of the Tight Ends
portion of the 2008 Experts Poll hosted by Fantasy Football Index magazine.
This is from the poll that is published in the magazine - 20 experts listing
their top 20 at each position. Every pick is scored. And in the tight ends
portion of the competition, Stephens is the winner. He was followed by
Michael Nazarek (FANTASY FOOTBALL MASTERMIND) and Roland Wood (DYNASTY
ROGUES).
Nazarek, meanwhile, has moved into first place in the overall competition,
with Wood and Scott Endsley (FANTASY DRAFT EDGE). The three most important
positions - QB, RB, WR - are still in play, so it's wide open. Thus far,
Endsley has put together the most impressive scorecard, ranking in the top 5
in all three positions (defenses, kickers and tight ends).
The poll, started in 1991, is different from other experts competition in
that every expert has to take a stand on every significant player - every
pick is scored. If an expert ranks a player No. 1 at a position, that
player's actual fantasy production is multiplied by 20. If an expert ranks a
player No. 2, the player's production is multiplied by 19. If the expert
ranks a player No. 3, the multiplier number is 18, and so on.
In case of Stephens, for example, he ranked Jason Witten as his top tight
end. Witten finished with 119.2 points in this scoring system, so that
choice was worth 2,384 points to Stephens (119.2 x 20). Looking at Stephens'
overall board, there isn't any knockout-type that lifted him ahead of
everyone else. He was one of the few to put Witten ahead of Antonio Gates;
that got him a few points. And he was among the highest on Owens Daniels
(8th) and Tony Scheffler (7th), and they both had solid years. Regardless,
when you add them all up, he's the winner.
Fantasy Football Index isn't an official part of this poll. We administrate
and score the deal, so we've always taken a step back on this thing. It
seems like the right thing to do. Unlike the experts, for example, we would
have the ability to go back in and tinker with our rankings after the
mid-May deadline. For this year, we would have had the ability to bail out
on Cedric Benson and Travis Henry, who ran into off-field problems after the
experts deadline but before our print deadline. But we always plug in our
magazine picks to see how they compare. So far, we're off to our worst
showing ever in the Experts Poll - below-average in all three positions.
The top 11 finishers in this poll earn spots in the magazine's 2009 Experts
League, which will be published in the upcoming edition of the magazine.
Whichever expert finishes first in the overall poll will get his choice of
draft position; the 2nd-place finisher will get second choice of draft
spots, and so on. The 12th and final draft spot will go to a Fantasy
Football Index reader.

Fantasy Football Guidebook places 2nd in Fantasy Index magazines 2008 Expert Poll Kickers
Jeffrey Kamys of Dr. Stats Fantasy Sports is the winner of the kickers
portion of the 2008 Experts Poll hosted by Fantasy Football Index magazine.
After all 20 picks by all 20 experts were weighed and graded, Kamys earned
enough points to edge Sam Hendricks (Fantasy Football Guidebook) and
defending champion Dan Bakley (The Fantasy Point) for first place in this
category.
Scott Endsley of FantasyDraftEdge.com, meanwhile, earned enough points to
move to the top of the overall leaderboard. Endsley finished in 4th at
kickers and was 3rd in the defense category. Fantasy Football Guidebooks Sam Hendricks is the only other Expert to have finished in the top 8 in both categories so far.
Michael Nazarek (Fantasy Football Mastermind) and 2006 Scott Pianowski
(Yahoo! Sports) currently sit at second and third place on the overall
board, but it's still early. Yet to come are the results for quarterbacks,
running backs, wide receivers and tight ends, and those positions play a
bigger role in determining the overall champion - we're just getting warmed
up.
The scoring system isn't necessarily ideal. An expert is severely punished,
for example, if he lists a player who gets hurt. That's why the Fantasy
Football Index picks fared so poorly this year when compared to the field of
experts. We were high on the two New York kickers, Lawrence Tynes and Mike
Nugent. Both of those teams put up lots of kicking points, but when Tynes
and Nugent got hurt, it destroyed our draft board in that category.
Kamys had a noteworthy boo-boo in this category when he ranked Shayne Graham
3rd overall, but most others also had the Cincinnati kicker in their top 10.
Kamys separated himself from the field by ranking Matt Bryant (113 points)
13th - only four other experts listed Bryant at all - and by being lower
than the others on Josh Scobee (not even listed) and Adam Vinatieri (just
7th).
The final results for the tight ends position will be posted Friday.

Sam Hendricks (Fantasy Football Guidebook) takes 7th (of 20 Experts) in Fantasy Football Index magazine Rankings for Defenses
WOOD TAKES EARLY LEAD IN FANTASY INDEX POLL
Roland Wood is the early leader as final tabulation begins of the 2008
Fantasy Football Index Experts Poll. Wood, of the Dynasty Rogues company,
scored 32,448 points in the Defense / Special Teams category, the first of
six different sections that will be graded over the next week.
Michael Nazarek of Fantasy Football Mastermind and Scott Endsley of
FantasyDraftEdge.com were the other medalists in this category.
Final points are as follows ...
Points
32448 Wood
32074 Nazarek
31986 Endsley
31860 Pianowski
31644 Henry
31616 Alan

In the Defense/ST category, for example, Wood scored well against the field
by ranking the Jets 11th -- 5 spots higher than any other expert. The Jets
scored 178 points, so Wood earned 1,780 points for that pick (10 x 178).
Wood also fared well by ranking the Patriots 15th -- 5 spots lower than any
other experts. New England's defense had a lousy year (fantasy wise), but it
didn't hurt Wood as much as the rest of the field (half of the experts had
New England among their top 4 defenses).
Defenses were scored on the system of 6 points for touchdowns and 2 points
for each sack, safety, interception or fumble recovery. No points were
awarded for offensive fumble recoveries, fake field goals or fake punts.

2008 fantasy leagues
The Holidays are over. Time to get back to the fantasy week.
Let’s review how I did in 2008 in my fantasy leagues.
Highlight has to be my 7th place overall finish in the Fantasy Football Players Championship (FFPC). This event had 180 of the best fantasy football players competing for a $75,000 1st place check. Going into the last weekend I was 2nd, but a super human effort by fantasy football player DeAngelo Williams (108 yards rushing and 4 TDs = 34.8 points) left me in 7th place. Still a top 5% finish!
Fantasy Football Players Championship 7th overall (7 of 180) for a top 5% finish
As far as my other 13 fantasy league football:
League Results
Fantasy Index Expert Auction 2nd Place Overall
FFPC Satellite #17 2nd place
NFL.com 2nd place
Diehards Expert league 3rd place
Lakenheath Local League Playoffs- 3rd place
WCOFF Satellite #51 Playoffs
NFFC Consolation Round 65th of 270
NBC Consolation Round 45th of 209
Draftbook Expert League 5th place
NFFC Satellite Did not make playoffs
NBC Satellite Did not make playoffs
Experts.com Expert League Did not make playoffs
FFOC 1st and Goal bracket Did not make playoffs
So 7 playoff appearances in 14 leagues, don’t forget that most of these leagues are either Expert leagues (where I faced the best experts in a fantasy mock draft) or high stake leagues (where the best of the best compete). FFOC was one team versus 6000 for a chance at a million bucks. Hey you never know……………..
Please check my website (www.FFGuidebook.com) and this blog often in the coming weeks as you get ready for your fantasy football draft, NFL fantasy football and all my 2009 fantasy drafts.
