Running back is considered the marquee position by most fantasy leaguers. Win that position, and it can be a stepping stone to winning your league.
So appropriate than when John Moore of Sea Isle City, N.J., won the Running Backs position in the Fantasy Index Open, he also moved into first place overall. Only one position (quarterback) is left to grade.
Adrian Peterson was the big question mark at this position, after tearing up his knee last December. Would he be ready on opening day? Would he start the year on the PUP list? How much speed and explosiveness would he lose?
Moore put Peterson all the way up at No. 4 on his draft board (behind Foster, McCoy and Rice), and it paid off nicely, as Peterson came within 9 yards of the single-season record for rushing yards.
Scoring for this contest is just like the Experts Poll. The higher you rank a player, the more his production counts towards your score. Those who put Peterson in their top 20 got his actual production (311.4 points) multiplied by some number between 30 (1st-place vote) and 11 (20th-place vote). We used to scored these things on a 1-20 scale, but that makes the 20th picks worth only 5 percent as much as the first-place votes.
Moore ranked Peterson fourth, so he got 8,408 points (27 x 311.4) points for that selection.
Moore is a real estate agent by day. In the overall standings, he’s trailed right now by two industry pros – Sam Hendericks and Adam Holtz.
Chris Hertzberg from Austin, Texas, and Kevin Cuozzo from Boston finished 2nd and 3rd in the running backs category.
The winner of the Fantasy Index Open wins a gigantic trophy from Affordable Trophies. They've been making trophies for fantasy leagues for over 15 years. The trophy they'll be handing out for this one is similar in size to an NFL Lombardi trophy.
The winner of this competition also wins a spot in the Experts Poll proper, where he'll compete alongside the likes of Hendricks and the other panelists in that competition. This is a win-and-your-in competition.
